No, you made a specific derogatory comment directed towards me because you wrongly assumed I was planning to come back at that time. You then subsequently deleted it after a few others told you to pull your head in.
Produce it or GTFO. I don't remember anything directed at you, but vaguely remember you taking it personally. It was a general stance against people returning at their leisure - which hasn't changed - that brought the wrath of the hordes.
Yep, and the same thing is happening in the other direction too.
We have heaps of students, who have been paying through the nose to study here, who are stuck in Australia as they can't get home. After taking their money, taxing them if they work (with no tax free threshold) what are we doing for them? Letting them starve unless they can find some charity because there are very few jobs around.
Australians should be able to return, full stop, no questions.
Those stuck here should be supported. We welcomed them when they wanted to spend money here, we had no problem employing them and ripping them off with crap wages, now we need to take responsibility for having them here.

I think people (citizens) should be able to return when they want but it should come with a personal cost given the call to return was made but not heeded.
Clearly I can't do that, because you sensibly deleted it when advised to.
There are two things that matter here IMO - one is government policy and execution. On the whole Australia's done pretty well, with some natural advantages, even with the crazy policy of allowing Australians to come home if and when they need to. I note that high flyers and foreign investors can still enter the country and somehow bypass the regular quarantine procedures, but that's the country we are becoming.
The second one is personal responsibility, and on that I agree to a point. If people make an active decision to stay OS for family/work/responsibility reasons then they are taking the risk that bad things might happen and they may not be able to return. That's life. You'll hear no complaints from me about things I actively choose.
I do profoundly disagree with demonisation of people who return when we don't know their personal circumstances. Australia is a wealthy, well-educated country with a health care system better than most. It should be able to deal with relatively small numbers of citizens returning to Australia when it already allows business/diplomatic/celebrity travellers. People who entered should be treated equally and fairly, even if that means quarantine camps outside the cities, I don't care.
It's grossly inconsistent. We have Tennis Australia organising for a multitude of tournaments to be held in Victoria and citing quarantine arrangements to the players, apparently without clearing things with the government. And Andrews has (rightly) said, hang on a minute...
We either take the virus seriously or we don't. And events have shown that when we don't, it's going to bite us.
Rather than blaming the cleaner or the returning O/S traveller/expat for the SA outbreak it's the fault of the system we are still using.
At a time when the rest of the world is increasingly dangerous from an infection perspective the Feds and the States agreed to lift caps on returnees.
Higher risk & more returnees and using a system that's proven to be flawed?

Returning travellers/expats should be confined to dedicated quarantine facilities manned by staff who live on site and have to quarantine before they are allowed back into the general population.
It's been months, there's been ample time to set this up.

Victoria closing the SA border from midnight for 48 hours before a permit system is introduced to facilitate essential travel.
Better late than never I guess but should have been done when the outbreak was first discovered earlier this week. Not sure why the delay but I hope no carriers crossed the border whilst they were ruminating.
Again, what about those who were stranded? when countries went into lockdown, meaning they couldnt get to an international flight, or flights cancelled etc. People have been stuck overseas for months in these circumstances.
Fragments of the virus detected in wastewater from treatment plants in Portland and Benalla. Both towns on freight routes and Portland is on one of the 2 main routes from Adelaide to Melbourne. Neither town has had any recent COVID cases. Let's hope this doesn't get out of control again. Makes the decision to leave the border open even more bewildering. Particularly in light of how stringent all other restrictions in Victoria have been.

Where do you get your information? They all get ripped off with "crap" wages do they?
Staggers me some of the misinformation those of the left persuasion throw out regarding wages/taxes etc.
Maybe not ALL of them, but there have been some high profile cases of wage under payment, particularly 7 eleven.
