Coronavirus

Sporting events in Italy & Japan going ahead but in empty stadiums due to the virus.
Victorian Minister for Sports Martin Pakula was on radio yesterday & did not rule it out happening here too if the virus takes hold.
Would be hard to imagine.
Will he compensate us $&250000 like he did for saints to play a match at their home ground.
Is there another thread for moronic use of taxpayer monies ?

Don't pull loved ones out of aged care: Hunt

The federal government says families should not pull their loved ones out of nursing homes despite a staff walk-out at one centre after a woman died from coronavirus.

Health Minister Greg Hunt says nursing homes are still the safest place for elderly Australians who need care, despite fears about how many could die if the virus takes hold in aged-care facilities with poor infection controls.

Australia's coronavirus death toll now stands at two, after a 95-year-old woman died following contact with an infected aged-care worker at Sydney's Dorothy Henderson Lodge.

Not sure whether this is sound advice. Nursing home, prison, hospital are three places I definitely wouldn't want to be.

Lucky I can't spread disease through PRE.... My wife lives in an aged care home. 4 people of the 30 in her unit have died this year. I will keep you posted about her health and mine.

That could be fun. Not sure my neighbours would be overly impressed with a couple of filthy forty tonne excavators parked in my front yard n me rummaging around with the garden hose, broom n a bucket of sudsy water though.
It works for me. My colleague lives in the villa next door. We’ll play call of duty in between six packs

Case count excluding China/Diamond Princess (updated 11:30pm)

19,036 cases
360 deaths (1.89%)
509 severe (3%)
16,320 mild (86%)
1,847 recovered (10%)

Italy 41 deaths yesterday +769 => 3858
Germany +281 => 543
France +138 => 423
Spain +54 => 282
USA +51 => 209
UK +29 => 116
Sweden +42 => 94
Norway +30 => 89
Netherlands +44 => 82
Belgium +27 => 50

The angry genie is out of the bottle.

The WHO and the UN are the last two organisations I'd be taking advice from.

They might enjoy it if you do it in a Daisy Duke outfit Masso :))
That'd instantly destroy the eyesight of anyone unfortunate enough to cop a peep. Reckon they'd send out the SOG to take me down as a violent offender.

Safe to say I've been using paywave wherever possible.
Can't think of many things that would transfer this illness around more than handling cash.
Surprised it's hardly been mentioned..

Guys, it is easy when you're powerless to get angry, lash out, and blame people. Also, in this case it's easy to convince yourself there's something we can do to fix it.

Fact is, the standard face mask is not going to protect you from this coronavirus. They can help infected people from spreading the disease temporarily, but that's about it. That's why you see surgeons wearing them, not the patients they're operating on. It's also why we should really have our limited supply available to healthcare workers.

Hong Kong has done much more than just face masks. They've had large scale school closures, reduced public gathering and sporting events, and people have self isolated. All stuff we haven't done. And yeah, they've limited the spread (or at least, they've stopped testing people who are positive) , but they're still all going to get it.

WHO won't admit it, but this is a full blown pandemic. We are all going to be exposed to it. The only questions now are will it be before or after a vaccine or antivirals are available, and will it become attenuated as it spreads. Draconian travel bans early might have done something, but probably not.

As for avoiding handling cash... Sure. But I'd be more worried about door handles. If you're going to go outside, you're going to interact with things that could be contaminated. Again, wash your hands.

I will get shot dow with this.

I’m just fed up.
Firstly I’m hearing that the Chinese are getting more through family relations than the 4 allocated toilet rolls! Shortage in China?

I’ve have been trying for 3 days, Everywhere near me just to get 1, while stores arerunning out and now they don’t even want to tellyou when they will next come in. Only like a tradesman between this time and this time.

since when did they become just a necessity that they are being cleaned out so fast and really genuine people just want 1 and people are stock pulling them.

one store told me that you can use paper towels? What? You use them !

second point.
government now saying we will cop a $ Billion dollar hit to our economy.
WHY?

Get China with all their $ to compensate Governments around the world hit by their eating /hygiene practices. They got plenty of $. They come here and buy all our properties & business& infrastructure and go back home , so why shouldn’t they assist. They caused this!

They have been caught spying on ours and other countries trying to get intel, why don’t others countries face up to them like Trump does?

Angry

Just lucky we've invested billions in a World Class NBN which will make working from home a real possibility for many people.

Sorry but I simply don't believe you're no better off with a mask. A variety of sources (i.e. not government advice) suggest a P2/N95 mask is better than no mask by a factor of 5. If someone coughs or sneezes in your vicinity it simply has to provide some protection.

Coronavirus response may draw from Spanish flu pandemic of 100 years ago
Strict public health initiatives including quarantine camps, the compulsory wearing of face masks, and the banning of public events slowed the spread and severity of the outbreak.

Certainly if the disease becomes widespread here I will be making use of my small quantity of P2 respirator masks when going out in public, and optics be damned.

P2 and N95 masks do reduce your risk. Insofar as it's less likely for you to have airborne droplets contacting your mouth/nose. But they don't filter out viruses.

And those aren't the masks people in Hong Kong are wearing.
