Covid Patients Testing Positive After Recovery Aren’t Infectious, Study Shows

Researchers are finding evidence that patients who test positive for the coronavirus after recovering aren’t capable of transmitting the infection, and could have the antibodies that prevent them from falling sick again.

Scientists from the Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studied 285 Covid-19 survivors who had tested positive for the coronavirus after their illness had apparently resolved, as indicated by a previous negative test result. The so-called re-positive patients weren’t found to have spread any lingering infection, and virus samples collected from them couldn’t be grown in culture, indicating the patients were shedding non-infectious or dead virus particles.

The findings, reported late Monday, are a positive sign for regions looking to open up as more patients recover from the pandemic that has sickened at least 4.8 million people. The emerging evidence from South Korea suggests those who have recovered from Covid-19 present no risk of spreading the coronavirus when physical distancing measures are relaxed.

You mean the opportunity cost of preventing deaths which are preventable? What if that death is you? How would you calculate the opportunity cost of that?

If our economy is so damned fragile that preventing death causes all these problems, then maybe we need a new economy.

DS

What? How can you create any economy with low revenue generation?

That's the issue, declining business activity will always lead to increased social payments. A new economy would do what? Pay no social security or go after a budget surplus that can protect against these. Both have been going 1 way for decades, increasing budget deficits to fund increasing social programmes. I'm not saying they are bad, but what economy can you foresee that would be able to cope with the level of reduced business activity that has occurred to try to protect society.

This is a genuine question by the way, how would things be different in the "new economy"?

China’s New Outbreak Shows Signs the Virus Could Be Changing

Chinese doctors are seeing the coronavirus manifest differently among patients in its new cluster of cases in the northeast region compared to the original outbreak in Wuhan, suggesting that the pathogen may be changing in unknown ways and complicating efforts to stamp it out.

Patients found in the northern provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang appear to carry the virus for a longer period of time and take longer to test negative, Qiu Haibo, one of China’s top critical care doctors, told state television on Tuesday.

Patients in the northeast also appear to be taking longer than the one to two weeks observed in Wuhan to develop symptoms after infection, and this delayed onset is making it harder for authorities to catch cases before they spread, said Qiu, who is now in the northern region treating patients.

That was my concern some time ago.

To give you an idea ..

Australia: 1 person in every 260,000 has died from Coronavirus.

USA: 1 person in every 3,280 has died from Coronavirus.

Trump. So much winning.

For anyone in doubt, just look at that. That's what America week elected as their President. He may win a 2nd term.

We have been with witnessing the demise of the US as a world leader.

Nah, they would have to demonstrate that anybody had thought this level of idiocy was possible. He's breaking new ground on a daily basis. Revolutionary stuff.

Hahahahahaha

"Theres many per capitas, relative to what, but whatever way you look at it we are at the top on a per capita basis".

Hahaha that's just ammunition for any comedian in the world. Many per capitas but we are at the top, but the reality is they are not. 39th for all countries, 27th for all countries greater than 1m population. Oh I get what he's doing, they are number 1 when you eliminate all countries with less than 330m population. :rotfl2
