Who is saying full steam ahead? Who is saying get rid of social distancing? Who is encouraging everyone to forget the rules they have lived under? Haven't heard any of that messaging coming from any leader in Aust.

The messaging has been clear, all it is is a gradual relaxing of the gathering rules. You think they are the reason for the cedar meats fiasco? Or the recent McDonalds cases? Stage 3 or Stage 2 would not have prevented those recent cases. And unless we went to Stage 4 does anyone really think we would have got to 0 for an extended period of time and eradicated the virus. Very easy to argue to wait a little longer, how long? Those cases would have happened.

Keep your knickers on, I'm talking generally, not about Australia specifically. In the US the Trumpers have ramped up the suicide rhetoric and they really don't care who dies.

Complexity is complex, but the risk of a second wave is very real in many countries.

Hopefully those with jobs are prepared to carry the tax burden of the unfortunates without.

Yeah, I'm disappointed that wasn't the strategy.

I'm fortunate to have a job. 'Prepared' has nothing to do with it - if the government says you're paying a tax, you're paying. Remember the Queensland flood levy under Gillard? That was a drop in the bucket compared to the costs associated with coronavirus.

The other side of the coin is that they've really ramped up testing the last few weeks, so bound to get more positive cases back.
Take out the McDonalds and Cedar Meats clusters, which they're now on top of, and I reckon the numbers aren't too bad.
They've always said that it would be inevitable that there would be breakouts - as long as they're acted on quickly is the key.

the crux is that a very high percentage of fellow Australians need to do the right thing.
Same as vaccinations.

A small number who dont follow the guidelines can cause a big problem.
Havent we seen this with meatworkers who socialise?

I believe the majority of people will behave with care so that the risks become insignificant.
Also I have high faith that small numbers will act carelessly and deliberately disregard the safe measures, so the risks become unmanageable

Victoria and NSW have both used COVIDSafe: Hunt

Mr Hunt says Victoria and NSW have used the COVIDSafe app while trying to track the spread of the virus in their states.
He said it was untrue that NSW health authorities were unable to access the app’s data, despite reports to the contrary.
“The Victorian government has informed us that they have used it,” he said.
“Our understanding is that other states have used it previously."
Earlier this morning, Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services said it had accessed the COVIDSafe app and would try to trace a patient's close contacts for the first time.
"On Monday evening, Victorian Public Health team identified a COVID-19 positive patient who had the COVIDSafe App registered on their phone," the Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement this morning.
"The patient consented to Victoria using data on their phone which has been downloaded to look for potential contacts."
The spokesperson said there had been few opportunities to use the app so far, with only a small number of cases of community transmission in Victoria.
"We hope this continues."


Of course won't help if those close contacts haven't downloaded the app also or if patients themselves haven't downloaded the app, the more that do so the better.

Yeh, probably shouldn't get too caught up in it. Just get annoyed with the undertone of criticism of gov't decisions to open up, the posting articles about "young" people getting sick from Corona (yes they do but in minute numbers and face far greater risks from other preventable causes - how about we see names of young people who have died in such circumstances and their stories for some balance?) and posting about VIC opening up too early? Add it to the inflammatory comments about golf and fishing in VIC. I would understand bans on activities if they were based on evidence but those bans were not based on any evidence or common sense. And I would understand if there were valid criticisms of other decisions if they were supported by evidence/data but it appears just pot shots are taken for the sake of it.

Many appear to have little empathy for the massive social disaster that will far exceed the death toll from covid-19 in Aust. Gov'ts have done a terrific job in minimising the health impact. They are now trying to stem the economic impact and are criticised. Surely we need to have some faith in each other and take some personal responsibility for our actions?

Perhaps I'm just annoyed because I haven't had my coffee this morning.

That's good if true.
Agree the more that download the app the better. I certainly think it's a good initiative.
