Coronavirus

"Come on Dan there's only so long we can stay at home" writes witless Murdoch stooge, Sophie Elsworth in the Herald Sun today. "We've been good for weeks on end now and with coronavirus cases remaining low it's time for politicians to lighten the mood, let us out and trust us to do the right thing".

What a flog. First "We've been good". Who is we? News Corp journalists? Police are fining people every day for breaking the lockdown laws. There's an idiotic anti-vaxxer march planned for midday at Parliament House and the owner of Cedar Meats is up to his bottom lip in it, today's report revealing that his staff didn't wear the face masks supplied and cases increasing to 75 in connection with that cluster. Not good behaviour. Cases numbers in Victoria are ticking upwards, not remaining low at all. I don't think that your mental discomfort equals time to ease restrictions in light of these developments.
And asking politicians to "lighten the mood". WTF. Find a way to improve your mood yourself! This highlights the sort of sick dependancy on politicians for every aspect of our lives that is peddled by the right wing Murdoch press. "YOU can't be happy because the opposition government is in power". The indicator for easing restrictions is based on expert scientific evidence, not the childish whining of the Murdoch press, looking to score points in a crisis. Harden TFU and stay home for the good of the community that you live in. I reckon the LNP would like nothing more than Victoria to be reopened entirely right now...and a further devastating spread of coronavirus infection, so they can try to score political points off that, blaming the opposition government.

What a ridiculous statement.

Heh, we've got Pre posters referring to him as Adolf.

Aren't they actually asking for less dependency on government? Whilst I cannot stand the Murdoch press you can only compare the VIC experience to those in other states, ruled by both Labor & LNP premiers. We are a bit of an outlier. Perhaps in the long run Dan will be proven to have had the best strategy?

Your comment on the LNP's wish for an outbreak shows your bias and is ridiculous, not sure if you've heard Hunt/Morrison recently praising Andrews when questioned over the Cedar meats incident. Political point scoring???

I'm still yet to read much in the way of concern on PRE over the health dep't handling of the Cedar meats fiasco. Most left-wing outlets haven't written much other than quote numbers etc and highlight some links between the owner and Wuhan. Sounds like a pretty dubious operation he is running. I'm reasonably sure that if this had happened in NSW there would have been much finger pointing and blame, and then some criticism of the federal gov't thrown in. Simply hard to understand how a workplace isn't informed immediately any employee (whether full-time/part-time, casual) contracts the virus. Hopefully there are some lessons learned.

Dr Fauci now in quarantine as the Whitehouse brigade start to get struck down with the virus.
Maybe they should have been wearing masks & social distancing..
What a shitshow the USA is.

I've already criticised the handling of the Cedar meats issue. I'm not Labor stooge and I think there should be a public investigation of it. But simultaneously, I can't imagine why the Murdoch press, the mouthpiece of the LNP is encouraging people to question the lockdown laws. It's insane. OF COURSE the LNP would never declare anything as blunt as what I facetiously suggested (just waiting on Giardiasis to take my bait there...) but were there to be an outbreak, they would be the first to jump on it as a political issue.

someone early on in this Covid story said, “it’s not so much the virus that concerns me it’s the hysteria...”

By these figures Belgium are in front by a mile.

Sure, but Belgium count it in a totally different way. They count deaths in homes as suspected COVID even if it wasn't proven. On that basis Belgium are doing the worst in the world. I'm not sure how that makes Sweden's figures OK. Belgium has also performed 4 times more tests per capita than Sweden. Belgium capital is 1700km from Sweden's. Belgium is also very close to the very hard hit France and UK. All the countries around Sweden; Finland, Norway, Denmark are doing significantly better by up to 8 times deaths per capita. The theory is Sweden people are much more compliant than other countries, also many live alone anyway. That's the theory behind taking the approach they did but clearly that hasn't worked.
