Club Statement

We're making pretty significant judgements about two families we know almost nothing about, but if you ran the maths on how many AFL players have kids and how many went in the initial hub I think you'd find a fairly stark answer that would indicate it's not that necessary.

Just pointing out it's a bit rich teeing off on a kid joining his dad in the hub as being a waste of money when we are equally happy to have a feed in the same trough.
Surely you aren't serious, that is a ridiculous statement & position to take

That's the beauty of opinions I suppose. We all have our own.

I think taking your wife and three small kids into the hub is as ridiculous as taking your teenage son, but if I had to choose I'd take the teenager because he might be able to contribute something useful. And I think that is why the overwhelming majority of people from all clubs haven't done it.
LOL, spin it any way you like.

Last time I looked Trent Cotchin was Captain of one of the clubs putting the show on & away from home for what 16 weeks or so ?

Edward McQuire doesn't need to be there , his Presidential role at the scum can quite easily done from here & taking his son is simply largesse & quite frankly makes me want to throw up.

If there's a chance to have a slap at our club or players, it'll be taken.

Be interesting to know how many players from every club have their partner and kids with them.. some on here make it appear that the only one is Cotchin. Maybe he was overly vocal early on allowing those who aren't so, to benefit from him sticking his head above the parapet
:peepwall
No doubt there'll be some expert on here who'll know everything about everything and will let us know!
If not, they'll probably just make it up;)

Let's face it.... who amongst us on here is really who they say they are?

Anyway, I've gotta fly, the bells are ringing and I must take my seat in the chamber to vote on an important piece of legislation!

If you define trolling as not saying everything Richmond does is perfect and everything everyone else in the AFL does is a disgrace then I'm probably guilty.

The conversation here is PRE 'someone from another club is taking his son to the hub, what a disgrace', TBR 'Probably no worse than taking wife and three little kids', PRE 'Troll!'.
I , and dare I say most posters on PRE, do not say “everything Richmond does is perfect “ and quite frankly that’s just you changing the narrative.

If you think the Captain of a club taking his 3 toddlers Is exactly the same as a president taking his adult son then that’s your prerogative but I don’t think many would agree.

As Baloo pointed out you never seem to miss when it comes to having a swipe at the club. Be honest, have you ever been sacked or have a perceived “mistreatment” by the club? Because quite frankly that’s how you often come across, as some sort of vindictive “jilted lover” or something like that.

Looks like a spin-off to me.

A. so is every other Captain and player.

B. Would have thought it is up to Collingwood who they think is needed. They have a set number allowed and above that they start paying costs.

I'm inclined to agree with you in part TBR.

And I'm not sure if I'd want someone elses wife and kids around all the time either. Did the players get a say in who the extras were? Did every player get the option of taking their wife & kids. Is the AFL paying for it all (appears not from another post)

Eddie cops it more than anyone in football. Mostly caused by himself. I dislike how many feel like his kids are fair game by default.

Club bias/loyalty whatever you want to call it can make hypocrites of us all.

I'm happy to make up an answer.

Out of the first hub I believe it was only Tim Kelly's family and one of the other West Coast indigenous players who went to give them company, and I think there is a medical issue at play with that.

There's certainly many more now but I'd make up the fact that it is a tiny ratio of the overall number of players with kids.

Absolutely never had any professional dealings with the RFC other than as a friend to Dustin. Wouldn't feel it was appropriate to either so there is no ambition. As for being jilted, after the last few years I can honestly say I love the club more than ever. I still pinch myself over the experience I was lucky enough to have in 2017. To be in the rooms after the premiership is an experience I will never top for the rest of my life. If anything, I find it hard to care whether we win or lose now as I am so content.

I also reject the premise of the first statement and I don't think there is much substance to support the view. I think what happens is my views tend to be more balanced which when compared to one-sided views makes them be seen out of proportion. A bit like Attila the Hun thinking Andrew Bolt is a leftie.

I don't always agree with what you say mate, but I commend your balanced, well articulated responses to criticism. It's a sign of good character imo.

Forums are about opinions as much as facts I guess. 3 months away from your young family might be a bit too much for some people. No way I would want to be away from mine for that long. So taking them with you, if an option, makes sense to me. They aren't all stuck in one room sharing one bed, so I can't see how it would have much effect on other players, really? Signing up as a player to the hub protocols for 3 months is a world away from a President making an unnecessary entry into the hub. Eddie being Eddie, I don't see any reason to give him a pass for his ever-present ego.

Thanks, I appreciate you saying that. At the end of the day I don't take it personally, it's just words on a screen after all.

I post my thoughts on things, some people agree, some don't and that's great. I love discussing footy and I enjoy doing it on this forum enormously. I have some insights through my work that I try and share in the spirit of the insights from other posters that I enjoy, whether it is Caesar's training info, LTRTR's stats vault, DJ's life in Botswana or the many, many other posters who teach me things every day about TV shows, movies, politics, pandemics and of course footy.

Long may we all enjoy discussing footy and the Tigers, even those of us who are Richmond hating, know-it-all, fake, contrarian trolls!

Here, hear

I don't know how old Eddie's kid is but I think comparing a small kid to an adult is comparing chalk and cheese.

Since my daughter is an adult I haven't seen her in person for ages, won't be seeing her on Fathers' Day either. That's life at the moment.

I don't see Peggy going up, why is Eddie there? It can't be for commentating because plenty of that goes on from broadcasts because of the travel restrictions.

BR, I understand your point of view, but I can't say I agree with it. Are any other club Presidents going up, are any other club Presidents taking their adult kids? Don't know the answer but I suspect it is no.
