China

I don't trust them at all. Never have.
History shows they are self serving invaders & one of the most racist countries on the planet.
Australia needs to be very careful going forward with that country in the wake of the coronavirus disaster.
A conscious uncoupling would be good for our nation. Make it very hard for the Chinese to invest or buy here. Stop buying goods made there too.
It's well time the rest of the world turned the spotlight on the CCP.
ToO, im not sure if you have been hacked or not but this post does not become of you, your peeps will hunt you down.

Anyone been following the racism towards people of African descent that's been happening in China this week?
I wasn't surprised on iota. Extremely racist nation. Far worse than Australia. Far, far worse.

I'm not saying China is blameless. far from it. But i really hate the casual racism we're seeing in this country. i have 2 mates with Chinese wives. how is this their fault?

on a sidenote, if there was ever a war between China and the USA, we would be stuffed. China is our biggest trading partner, but we are obligated to side with the US under ANZUS. Well, we're not obligated coz ANZUS isn't binding, but we will abide by it.

Sadly, it seems a sizeable chunk of our society doesn't have the basic intelligence to draw a distinction between the aims and behaviour of Australian citizens with a Chinese background, Chinese nationals and the Communist Party of China.
I would be filthy if someone put me in the same ideological boat as the Liberal National Party just because they're in charge right now.

Two things here Ian. The chinese wives are not responsible, how can they be? Only a prejudiced person woild think like that.
The CCP however is something totally different.

In the last week, China just completed and launched its second 075 model, 40,000 tonne amphibious landing ship. Designed to invade by sea. Considering this with China building islands in the South China Sea and claiming ownership, and China's moves to take more of Antarctica, I think the Australian Government needs to rethink everything about our relationship with China post-Coronavirus. World domination looks like the aim.

"China’s military might has grown after the launch of a 40,000-ton amphibious assault warship, built in months, raising fears that it is eyeing new territories in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Type 075 warship will carry more than a dozen helicopters as well as landing craft, hovercraft, tanks, drones and hundreds of marines."

Can the Australian way of life continue if we took a hard stance toward China? No one to export our stuff too. Needing to find new suppliers for everything or pay through the nose. That 65" TV we bought would cost around 20k.

China is flexing its muscle. Muscle that the western world gave China be way of a massive influx of money.

From the military angle, China were humiliated by the Japanese in WWII. You can sort of understand that they never want anything like that to happen again.

Maybe it wouldn't be the disposable society it is today if things cost more. Maybe that would be better for the environment.
Maybe we'd create more jobs for Australians if things were made here again instead of relying on an untrustworthy trading partner.
Maybe we wouldn't have to kiss their ass & have our politicians corrupted by a foreign entity.
Maybe young Australians could afford housing if we made it extremely hard for foreigners to purchase Australian property.
Maybe life would be better if we & the rest of the world ditched them altogether.

Here's a country that won't even allow an investigation into how their virus started & now they're getting heavy handed?
Time to have a very good look at this abusive relationship.

Have a read of this essay, it seems to be bang on the money. The reason China is flexing so hard right now is that the CCP cannot believe that their main opponent to "One world, one dream" (ie. China rules the entire civilised world) is...Donald Trump. The guy in charge of western democratic capitalism, who says on a live news feed that injecting bleach could be healthy. This has given China a free kick 10m out from the goal.

I think we need to cut right back our economic dependancy on China as it is a poison well. Or to put it another way, if we continue to rely on this as our economic future, we will be entirely bought and owned within 30 years. There might need to be a bit of necessary pain as we separate, you might not be able to buy a tele as cheaply as you used to be able to, but that dip in luxury items is far far better to our love of freedom than the alternative.

Spot on Oldie. It's incredulous that the Chinese Govt can criticise and make threats towards those calling for a transparent investigation into the source of a global pandemic that started in China and has so far killed over 200,000 people

You'll be asking the next generation, Gen Z, to make a fairly big reduction in their standard of living. Do you think they'll agree without a fight?

Not saying a more self-reliant Australia is a bad thing, just can't see how it can happen without a major global war or a fair bit of short to medium term pain.

Our politicians only care about the next 3 years. Long term thinking and strategy isn't what wind them elections.

How will we survive with less chinese students?

Perhaps Uni's can go back to educating rather than being a business.
