Changes

So the small forwards are going to be Baker, Bolton, Sonsie, Cumberland this round by the look of it. Not a lot of forward pressure there.
Bolton played 95% midfield last week and named there again this week so not sure he should be bracketed in the small forwards. It looks to me that the MC are finally keen, (as am I), to see if Shai can juice up our midfield structure permanently and is going to get a decent crack at it, at least that's what i hope. Naturally he will rotate forward at times.

No worries, any suggestions who will play small forward this round? Scratching my head personally

changes are good .. feels like Broads been gone months .. and i like Ross and Sonsie

great game for Soldo to return and for Bauer to get the Subs nod ..

Playing Miller allows us to use Samson as a permanent forward. They have Collins at 194cm and Ballard at 195cm. You'd think Samson at 206cm will stretch both.

We can also occasionally push three talks forward with Miller and other than those two tall defenders the rest of their defence are midgets

Interesting to hear Dimma say in his presser that Prestia has been playing hurt most of the year as there has been no one else to put in.
That says the VFL form of Ross and Dow has meant nothing but they will get picked if we don’t have enough midfielders due to a number of injurit’s, players needing a rest etc
Dimma also says of Ross “we love him as a player”. ( maybe should have put VFL in front of player ?)
For those pro Ross supporters don’t expect a long run for him in the ones based on the above.

Haha yeah I know you've been banging this drum for a while.

I think you could be right as Bauer as a forward, he's looked good at VFL level but being a bit undersized you need to have 1 of 3 things. Immense strength (think Jack Darling), very good speed off the mark or incredible smarts (ala Jack). If you can't generate seperation at the top level either with strength, speed or smarts, you will struggle at the top level.

I agree with you, he reads the ball beautifully which sets him up perfectly for defence. If you read the ball better, you can intercept mark and if your forward leads you to the ball, being a bit smaller means its easier to punch than outmark hence why its a bit easier to play undersized in the backline than it is forward.

Think Liam Jones too

More than Mansell has provided! Who would you play for forward pressure? Mansell pressure is a fallacy

The most experienced side since we beat the Crows by 5 goals in round 2.

Actually, I'm wrong. Bloody confusing these teams now with this sub bs.

I'd say Dimma's boy Mansell will be the sub.

Surely Juddy as sub. You want your sub to impact. If Mansell took 4 quarters to get 4 touches last week, we can't expect him to impact in a quarter as a sub

Of course. I want Judz in more than Mansell, but Dimma loves the number 31.

You assertion (and its been made many times on here by you and was the reason for your Bauer comment) is that we get players in and then try and turn them into something that they aren't.

Short came to us as a forward, we turned him into a JDM winning HBF
Baker came to use as a forward, we turned him into an outstanding HBF
Rioli came to us as a forward, we used him there and then turned him into 1 of the best HBFs in the game

We know when to move players to different roles.

Bauer came to us as a forward (having played there for a half a season very well for whichever team it was in Adelaide). We started him there as thats where he was drafted, and are trialling him down back where he is thriving. I'm not sure why there are so many on here that want to bag the club out for this, we find the positions that suit the players the best.

Ross to me is 1 of those players where we have wanted to play him, but we have had to find a role for him as he isn't better than our best midfielders. He's a midfielder (and Dimma mentioned that in todays presser) but we have to be straight here, he hasn't played in that position in the 1's because he isn't better than Prestia, Cotchin, Martin, Bolton, Graham, Edwards from past seasons and now Hopper and Taranto. He's a good player and we have tried to find a a way to get him in the team in different roles because we rate him as a player.

MIller is probably similar to Ross, hasn't been good enough to play in the roles that he is best at (who would you have had him in for last year? Gibcus? Tarrant? Grimes? Balta?) so we have tried to find alternative spots for him to give us flexibility. IMO he's a defender, and the club probably knows that, but if he's a defender, then he is a VFL defender for us as he isn't a best 22 defender for us, we have better players there.

Shai IMO is the one you can say is played out of position, but thats probably because of how good and how flexible he is. He's a mid in my eyes, but he's probably also our best small forward, so when we have a logjam in midfield he is the 1 to be shunted forward.

We haven't "constantly" made the wrong selection. We have stuffed this up in 2 games. The Dogs game for leaving out Jack in the wet was a horror decision (but also remember some of those calling that a horror decision, wanted Jack banished and retired after Round 1, which IMO is the bigger joke of the 2), and the sub decision against Melbourne was a very poor decision.

Some just want to complain at pretty much everything the club do, and I put you in that boat, you are probably only 1 person short of being the most negative on this forum (King Kong is numero uno) and frankly its tiring, boring and it makes the forum unenjoyable for every decision to be sensationalised as awful etc.
Think ya forgot one Poshy. George came to us as a defender n somehow ended up a triple premiership forward. Old mate Dimma musta been fully in his finest godlike pomp when he made that call.

Jack was rested, and they clearly made the decision not to deviate from the plan- i dont reckon you can say that is the wrong decision, for all we know he might have popped a hammy if he played.
and it is easy to call the sub decision against Melb a bad one, but we were always up against it so Hardwick threw a long shot to try to steal a win- it failed, but I dont reckon it changed what the result would have been.
I saw Jack say he was sore after a wet game (the pies game) so that’s likely why he was rested for that particular game
