Geelong have given us one or two terrible hidings in the past with one about 12 yers ago at Marvel being memorable for all the wrong reasons. They are in great form and if we play anything like our first half today we could find ourselves behind by by 100+!

Despite today’s win and the threat of a hiding next week there has to be a response by the MC to that pathetic first half.
Like Cotch a week ago, Jacks performance was just sub par,
and I would leave him out against the cats. Ralphsmith like Jack did one or two things in the second half but not enough to hold their places. Mansell just a no also.
Havn’t been a fan of Miller or Ross recently but would keep them in although Miller may miss if big Evan is available.
Miller’s second half much more impressive.

For some time now Balta has looked out of place as a defender and, as I have argued before, I think he is a natural forward. In any event he is no match for Hawkins in his current form, and without Jack and Lynch at the moment, imo he should move forward. Grimes to half back. Broad Vlastuin and Young to play across the backline.

In Bauer and Young
Out Mansell Ralphsmith and Riewoldt

B Vlastuin Broad Young
HB Short Grimes Rioli D,
C Bolton Hopper Ross
HF Cumberland Graham Prestia
F Pickett Balta Baker
R Ryan Martin Taranto
I/C Bauer Clarke McIntosh and Miller
Sub Cotchin.

I've never really had the same beliefs as you on our talls and I still don't.

Jack was never going to have a good game today. He was on Barass and they had other players coming in as 3rd man on him all day, was always going to be tough for him, but he kept working hard and hitting packs as best as he could. Balta I am yet to see anything that says he's a natural forward, to me he's a defender but the problem right now he's having to play the wrong role in defence. He's not a FB / Stopper, he's a CHB and wants to take the game on. He finds it tough against big strong forwards and did so again today against Allen.

Just off the cuff, and will probably change my mind during the week is.

Out HRS and Cumberland (you simply cannot reward the effort that he showed today)
In Soldo Mansell (Cotch as sub)

I would move Miller back for this game and stand him against Hawkins, agree Balta is not suited for him, but he can run with Cameron, probably the only 1 who has the tank to go with him. Soldo and Ryan to share the ruck.

I get the feeling the Tigs will throw everything at the Moggies next week to try and make a statement to the world.

Whether they succeed is another story but I do thgink Tigers will run out swinging like they did against the Go Deez.

Hopefully we kick straighter than that night and last week and today in the first half.

We needed a win.
We got it. The Footscary loss bent them over.

We agree about Balta and Hawkins, which is not a bad start. But in regard to the forward line I wouldn't play Jack there next week.

If he can't handle the West Coast defenders, there is no way he will find it easier against Geelong. Balta on the other hand has the athleticism, which is no longer a part of Jack's game.

Balta is also far better when he just plays his own game, rather than when he has to focus on what and where his opponent is up to, and about to do. You see it when he has played in the ruck.. he just goes at it. Size and aggression levels apart, he reminds me of a young Carl Dieterich. Hard to explain but his speed and size is our best bet in getting the ball to ground and putting pressure on Geelong's defence, (in the absence of Lynch). And certainly his strength is sufficient to hold a position, and his dual sided kicking at least close to the equal of Jack's.

Miller has the speed but so far not the aggression to play KPD. Hawkins would eat him.
Troubled by our defence so far with NV and Grimes well below the standards they have established over past years.
As you know I like Young, and Broad hasn't missed a beat since his return. Don't know quite how they are going to do it but if we are to win we will need to nullify Hawkins and his mate, with some double teaming or like. Baker and Rioli buzzing and getting in the way and NV and Grimes holding on to their marks.
Danger out gives us a chance, but not with Balta or Miller back.

And I don't blame Jack, but now he doesn't match up well in this match either.

No to Soldo coming back even if he’s fit. Plays 1 game back and he’s back out with a foot injury today?

Cumberland is obviously out, think mansell comes in and cotch sub.

Think Ralph etc. should be dropped but the vfl guys didn’t get a game this week so no point making a heap more changes.

And again to Posh, in regard to the popular view on Cumberland, he has lost confidence. The skills are still in place but not his belief. IMO he needs to know that he is part of our best team and that those around him believe that. Ralphsmith, Masell, Ross and Dow have been tried and will improve but the greater imperative as far as 2023 is concerned his restoring Cumberland's belief that he is a league quality forward, with a premiership medallion a part of his future.

Agree Momentai.

Think the kid has lost his confidence ‘completely’.

The question will be , will Hardwick ‘back’ the kid.

I made the fatal mistake of listening to MMM commentary and they were deplorable and kept making jokes and laughing like school kids when it came to Cumberland.

Switched to SEN after that and it was great that they said the 50 wasn’t there and watching it , I agree. What was great to see was Hardwick with Cumberland.

I hope that the players, if they need any motivation, they just have to go back to the game last year and to stop our most influential player that day, was to knock him out, that would be all the motivation I would need as a player.

I’m expecting a tough opening start to the game.

I’m also expecting, maybe wishful thinking, that with Cotchin back in , we find some fight.

Hoping that our second half turnaround and some of our more senior players finding something’ , we beat the Cats.

Friday night will be a huge night.

Which Richmond team turns up will be the key.

Cotch to start in the middle and cause some havoc!

Allan kicked 2 of his 4 goals against Balta. 1 was on the lead from a centre clearance, the other Balta was on the ground in the goal square while Allan marked 30mtrs away- hard to see why Balta was out of the contest. To me Balta is a FB. He will make some mistakes, and get out marked occasionally, but he will also out mark his opponent and spoil plenty.
He will take Hawkins, and Broad/Grimes will take Cameron.

Agree, and double teaming Cameron would be good 'cos he runs up and down the ground all day long, you need to have players on him in tandem to try and nullify the run.
