Changes V Carlton

I’d have Soldo and Nank in all year.

It was great to see him clunk a couple late. He looked super shaky up until then. There’s still a big question of team balance with Lynch due to come back in.

I liked Soldo more as a backman than a forward. I wonder if he could sit on a big forward when we need it. He’s always been a good nullifier.

And I don’t think I’ve ever missed a player as much as Astbury last night.
spot on! Solda is a ruckman and helps Nanks. Solda's only other position is FF (playing in the square),

You boys are fooling yourselves.
Can’t say Miller would succeed but he is faster, a better kick and better understands the Richmond mode of defence.
He will take on the contest in front of him, which he manages to reach successfully on a large proportion of instances, instead of sitting on a non contesting opponent and watching the ball fly past.

Not hard to see that a matchup of Curnow, McKay, Cameron or Hawkins could lead to thise teams isolating Tarrant in the forward 50.
Don’t like being critical but this was a recruiting error, which should now be accepted as such, with playing time and future career possibilities, no longer wasted on the mistake.

Sorry but thats rubbish. I watched him tightly in Round 1 and bar for 1 lead by Mackay Tarrant wore him like a glove.

You are just making *smile* up saying that Miller would be able to manage that.

If they would isolate Tarrant in our 50, why didn't they manage that in Round 1. Again, just making crap up as you clearly don't like Tarrant. We have a game that we can easily assess how he has already done against Mackay (I know it doesn't mean it will happen again for sure), and he did better than what you said so you cannot categorically say what you are without making stuff up.

I agree with your observations concerning Ben Millers recent form but
as for Tarrant are you missing the plainly obvious?

Over head marking back to his best… Strong one on one….
Mmmmmm.

Were you at the game on Thursday or watching on the TV? A lot of what Tarrant does is off the ball so you don't see it unless you are at the game.

I didn't say back to his best, I said> his overhead marking is getting back to how it was when he played at North. Meaning taking strong contested marks.
He is strong one on one, but like all backmen, he can be out marked but I would take Tarrant over gibcus who is still a kid and miller to take on McKay

I agree, we need experience on Mackay. I think Gibcus will be a star but he didn't have a great game on Marshall on Thursday as Marshall knew how to get him out of position.

Whoever we have on Mackay should be an experienced backman. I'm ok with Tarrant going out for team balance, but that has to mean that Balta goes to him. No MIller, no Gibcus.

I thought Edwards was good on Thursday.

Tough, hard at it, and had some good involvements. The handball to Rioli for his goal was a thing of beauty. TV made it look simple, but it was pure vision and touch.

He's not being gifted games. He's better than anything we have at VFL level, even at half power.

Just rewatching the game now and that handball has just happened and you are spot on, executed to perfection, out in front so Rioli didn't need to stop his run, just ran effortless onto the handball receive.

Was nearly as good as the blind overhead handpass to KMac as he was streaming into goal. The one that hit the Port player on the tit.
One or two good moments during a game n one or two howlers as well, but it's all the non competitive ineffectual bits in between that are saddening.

Good afternoon Posh.
At the game. The point is that he is too slow. Was once a very good player but I don't think we did due diligence when we decided to take him in the wake of Dave Astbury's unexpected retirement, and at a point when we didn't know we would get Gibcus.

Miller has had some good games with us but his consistency fell off and he had a bad one against I think it was Adelaide and immediately fell out of favour.
Over the last 4-5 weeks he has turned that around at VFL level with his speed, handling and team play.
He deserves a shot.
Just rewatched the PA game and really I saw nothing there to warrant your enthusiasm for No 6.
Balmy said something on the podcast recently about old players plugging along and preventing the development of our younger players. Miller has done his time since 2017 and is now at the top of his form at the lower level. He should not be held back by what has turned out to be a recruiting mistake, made under some duress, but still a mistake.

Blues due a proper reality check here. Tigers have hit form and should get it done by 30.

Jack Graham is doing all his defensive running for him, though. Watch the lead-up to Marshall's first goal. The leg rope Shedda gives Bum-Jokes you could ski behind. Poort brings it back to the corridor through Bum-Jokes and they go deep under zero pressure.

Shedda is one of my all-time faves but Lambo with one hip will run harder.

If Miller is playing well at VFL level we need to find a way to give him a chance, just not sure how, but we need to know if he is any good.

I watched the Werribee game and thought Miller is starting to look good and believing in himself. The VFL coaches have been singing his praises on his recent improvement. I reckon he would be a better bet that Tarrant against the Blues. Tarrant has skill and experience but he is now too slow to get into position for a contest as age has caught up on him whereas big Ben has a surprising amount of speed and agility so we have to try him for a run to see what he has got. I still want to see him succeed but the question is does the MC?.

Be careful what ya wish for ;)
Blues have played pretty average footy for the last two and a bit matches now, with some good passages in between.

The Sydney match was a good win, but they faded in the last half. They were ordinary against Collingwood, but it also says a bit about the 'Pies that the Blues nearly pinched the game at the death despite playing poorly for most of it. And last night the Blues did enough against a basket case in Essendon, and apart from wrecking their 150th birthday celebrations, there really isn't much to get excited about from the win - take the points and move on.

Backline still looks shaky especially with Weitering missing (Blues' most important player for mine), ruck remains a concern with Pittonet out, they also lose a fair bit of dash off half-back with Williams on the sidelines, and Cerra did his hamstring last night so he's also likely to miss this week.

It's as big a test as they'll have had since the Sydney match. Nothing would surprise me less if they get done here then upset Fremantle at Marvel the next week.

Surely it has to be for Tarrant if he's to get a game. I still don't really see the logic of giving a spot to a 33yo over a 22yo. Miller has had a couple ripper games in the VFL.

One of the reasons that the Pies defeated the Blues was because of the two rucks structure, Cameron and Cox.
Cameron thrashed De Koning.
We are not going to ruck Nank solo and risk an injury.
Very good points about Jack and Meatballs being injured last time.
We allowed Cripps to range across half forward and nail some goals.
Obviously, Walsh and Hewett are their other two key mids, hopefully Cerra out.
