Castagna announces retirement

There are so many young players with massive amount of talent that dont get to play 50 or 100 games
George didnt have that talent but what he did have was heart and work rate

Sydney Stack had more natural talent in his little finger than George but without the hard work it meant nothing'other players seeing his work ethic also pushed them to work harder to keep their spots

If it was not for his kicking george would have player another 6 years and been a 250 game player but he just couldnt get that right which made him lose confidence and the will to continue and thats probably best for him imo

Good luck Jason and all the best for your future and lets hope you have 5 boys and can keep the connection of georhe's at Tigerland

It's very sad to see another of our premiership heroes pull the pin, especially so suddenly and unexpectedly.

He had a unique skill set which really suited our style of play during our (ongoing) premiership run. He could pull off the miraculous, he could make the simple look quite difficult at times - he genuinely was an enigma! But you knew you were always going to get 100% out of him in every game, and by his speech he gave everything he had.

I loved seeing DTLD and Dan Butler there to support him.

Wishing him all the best post footy.

One of my all time faves. Georgie the chaos king. He, Butler and Rioli made us accountable defensively again. Long live Georgie, a battler with a well deserved 3 flags

Yep and I might have this wrong ,

but the energiser bunny play where it was headless chook stuff at times but it didn’t matter because it contributed to taking our opponents into deep water , doesn’t fit as much now as we seem to be going for more control

That plus he is probably struggling physically, he is probably smart enough to know the party might be coming to an end for him personally.

Enjoy retirement JC. You're brilliance at chaos footy both delighted and frustrated many a Tiger fan. But there's one thing no one could ever refute, and that was your desire to play to team rules and help us win.
A great mark for a smaller player, there's three things they'll never take away from you, nor the memory of every Tiger on the planet.

George what legend, no one knew what he was going to do, not even George sometimes.

Centre Half Forward in a Premiership Team, hardest position some say...

I remember having a coffee with a retired friend a former triple premiership player at another club, when I was defending Jason and that from rioli, castanya,George that George managed this hard roll the longest, I explained what he was asked to do on field and that nobody could continue this roll indefinitely, after hearing this,he understood how hard the tiger half forward pressure roll was.

Have people been seen George’s retirement speech? Interesting to note that Dan Butler was present and was recognised by George and Dimma, while still playing at another club. Of course they were close mates coming through the ranks together, but Butler was likely traded because of George… and now he’s retired.

Just found it interesting.

This is my favourite goal out of the many great goals that George kicked.

Just a pity the umpire didn't go arse over tit trying to get out of his way:)

Enjoy your retirement Jason.

I grew up dreaming of playing forward pocket for the RFC. E-grade amateur reserves was as close as I got. I am 45 and still dream I could kick the winning goal, just like Kevin Bartlett. Or George...

I just watched George's retirement speech and realised for the first time what it is that was so special about George.

George is me. George is you. George is us. George is the Tiger Army that turns up every week willing the warriors on the ground to be super human. To live out their own dreams.

He is the kid that dreamed of being an AFL footballer. That got there with sheer desire. That played such a huge role in three premierships. And when the role he defined was overtaken by others, he no longer could maintain that sheer desire - which eventually overtook his own football limitations.

George is the champ of the tiger army , the player we all dreamed to be.

Unfortunately it has taken his retirement for me to realise what made him such a special tiger.

George, you will always be our premiership hero.

Ah Georgie, what can one say? Thank you sounds kinda inadequate for all the crazy chaos Georgie football over the years. Done well Georgie, you n the rest of the crew. Three magnificent flags when I was thinking I'd probably never get to see another one after 2016.
Thanks Georgie, enjoy whatever ya get up to in the future.
