Castagna announces retirement

WTF George what are you doing!!! Bit sad to hear this. I'll agree with what most have said on the reason to retire now at 26 years of age. Even after winning that 1sts game he returned to last year showed a frown on his face when chatting with some teammates. Looks like 3 flags is definitely enough for him.....and would be for any player in football. I was hoping he was gonna get back to his great form but.....

Wow.
George.
Captain Chaos!

I'm stunned.
They must have had a word to him. (down the pecking order)
Wow.

Thanks for everything, George.
3 Premierships.
More importantly Triple Premiership Tiger.:cupgold:cupgold:cupgold
Job done. Have fun at all the future reunions.

Couple of nice moments for me among many.
Kicked a great goal v Freo near the boundary line where he used the umpire to shepherd the Freo guy (IIRC) and of course a great snap goal in the 3rd Q of 2017 GF V Crows.
And nearly BOG in 2019 GF.

A 7 year career, and 3 of them were Premierships. Fair return, that.
Congrats, my favorite Chaos merchant. :clap2

Any chance he appears at the Aints in the mid-season draft to hang out with Butler again?

Hopefully not especially as he's announced retirement.....but then again so did Brady.

Never been the same without Butler around him.

I'd say most on here were thinking how he was going to get a game this year.

Big Ben and Alex had something on the go post-footy, maybe he does too.

Good luck Jason, you'll always be a 3-times premiership hero!
Tattoo parlour owner!

Geez where did this come from ?

Frustrating at times, but his commitment and effort could never be questioned.

3 time premiership player for the Tigers is the sort of career we all could only dream of.

Well played George !

Almost took one of the biggest Tiger marks of all time right in front of me in the 2017 Prelim. Kicked Grand Final Goals. Kicked Finals goals. Didnt miss a lot of important ones. Kicked heaps of crucial ones. Physical beast with lightning pace. Sticky mitts. Retires with a CV the envy of 99% of players. An absolute Tiger legend.

Yep. His form definitely dropped off when the Butler departed at the end of 2019 to service Moorabbin.

Only 141 players in the history of the game have won 3 premierships, with another 47 having won 4. Out of just over 13,000 players to have played VFL/AFL

Very exclusive club for George. My remedial maths works that out to roughly only 1.5% of AFL players have achieved what George has.

Thanks for your efforts George, here's hoping your retirement allows us to recruit another player with the calibre of Marlion in the midseason draft.

It’s a very George way to do things. Good luck to him. He will always be a triple premiership player and welcome at Tigerland any time.

Unbelievable footballer.
Turned our fortune's around with Bulter & Rioli.
I will never forget the demolition jobs he was given as a pressure foward, he changed the way forwards played. No pressure No game.
3 time premiership player.
Hope you enjoy retirement bud!

Not a shock other than the timing - he would have been very well aware of where he sat in the pecking order... I'd say about P30 and that would be hard to take for a player who was an automatic selection during our premiership years. Good luck to him, he bought lots of joy and just a little frustration!

I will always remember the three amigos of 2017 with the magnificent Jack at the helm. They provided excitement week after week.
George, Dan Butler and my man were unstoppable. (and Towner at the end of the year)
They were a big reason to go to the footy was to watch the unbridled madness on the forward line.

*I reckon I'd back that flag side against the next two Tiger flag teams.

Missing the open goal against GC last year which would have sealed the game for us effectively ended his career. He was dropped after that and probably realized during the pre-season that even more players were passing him by.
