Agree and Lyon refuses to go through any proper process- he has this entitled view that he is that good that he should be offered the position on a plate.
I must admit I didn’t think the lol and bumbers processes were that much better when you look at them.
Did Lyon know of the Saints job before he declined the Essendon job???
Id take Ratts as midfield coach. Some blokes are made to be assistants and other to be the no1 man. Ratts is a great assistant coach just dont think he can be the top dog.
Lyon was a fantastic coach. He coached inferior teams to GF's on multiple occassions. Have a critical look at the lists he had and compare them to the teams they lost to. I(f you made a combioned team I reckon you'd be lucky to draw 7-8 players from the Lyon teams.
Has he been out of the game too long? Can he be more flexible? Can he relate to a new generation?

100% he was lined up before the boned Ratten. Hear them talk in the presser that it won't take long to appoint someone then the constant referrals to needing a harder edge with the coach. i.e. Lyon.
Don't think they need to go through a full appointment process. If they think Lyon is their man - why go through the charade.
They're going to live or die by the results of this appointment regardless.
Losers. If for nothing else you find out what’s out there, gather intel etc. You never know. You may stumble upon someone better suited.

They tried to take shortcuts in the build thinking they were closer than they were (along with targetting the wrong players - Hannebury, Hill etc) and are now stuck in no man's land.
And listening to Bassett - they completely overrate the quality they have.
Not a good recipe for any incoming coach.

AFL funded clubs have to get approval for any coaching contracts over $215k. Makes the Ratten sacking worse- his ability to find a good assistant job will be reduced as clubs would already have their coaches lined up. he will be paid until April next year, but then may not be able to find a good job inside football until the end of next year.
The new AFL rule stipulates that every contract exceeding $215,000 struck with coaches and staff at debt-ridden and AFL-assisted clubs must be approved by Auld and include a settlement of no more than six months.
AFL insists on six-month payout clauses for coaches
New guidelines to AFL-funded clubs limits payouts regardless of the length of contracts. But the coaches' association believes it gives incompetent boards a ''get-out-of-jail-free'' card.
