Ben Lennon

I'm actually quite pleased that we've kept Ben as I think he's shown some promising signs and to give him away for a junk pick would have been silly. If it is about attitude, hopefully the the lack of interest will have made him realise that there's the possibility that he may not be a professional sportsman in 2018.

But we must be getting a new Forwards coach this year; it's not all down to DH. P.Williams, former FL coach, gone.

Caracella might help in that regard but if Handbrake still wants us to slow play the ball and kick the footy into the pockets then our forwards won't have a chance and we will see a few more 7-8 goal games.

It's all up to Ben now. Needs to perform if he wants to play in the AFL in 2018

Yep. After the ridiculous article he wrote and the follow up article in the HSun he would want to start performing at a decent level because as of now he has zero value as an AFL player.

It must be a bit embarrassing for Ben that no one seemingly wanted especially when you see guys being traded for pick 92 or even 105.

We may have been offered those picks but the club was not prepared to accept. If that is the case, i am glad the club didn't accept and see if they can get something out of him. He does have potential

We could have traded him for a worthless pick but understandably we expected a bit more for a 3rd year former pick 12.

No doubt his manager tried every club to find him a new home and no one wanted or valued him. I wonder if McConville has had the heart to heart talk about this being his last chance and that despite his vibrancy no one outside his family rates him as a footballer. If he hasn't then it is all over for Ben and 2017 will just wallow on as he fades away.

However we will know pretty early if he is serious about showing how good he can be if he gets picked in the NAB Cup games, esp games 2 & 3.

Good players are good players, even the lower teams still have good players, I don't accept that its all down to DH stuffing his career up, I can agree from the outside it looks like hes been handled a like rough at times however I would say players like him need that.

I understand the game plan allows easier entry and opportunity, however I go back to the point good players are good players, Lloyd kicked what 35, Jack as always kicks a heap, good players are good players!

Its time to show us if you can play at the highest level and I think everyone needs to accept if rather than blame everyone other than ben!

How do you give this bloke a game next year? I wouldn't
Wrong thinking zippers.
You don't give him a game next year, you simply let him know that he's entitled to try and earn one before his career peters out to suburban league. Then sit back n find out if he's got any ticker at all.

Has a mountain to climb to get into Balmey's good books I would have thought going by the below quote he made on SEN on Friday, (not specifically about Lennon but just as a general philosophy).
" I think one of the things in today’s footy which hasn’t changed since 1858, you’ve got to have guys that really want to play for you"

Doesn't bode well!

Still has an opportunity.

If he wants it he will not only have to compete but he needs to be competitive. Two different things.

Showed in one of his games this season that he can tackle. Still heaps more room to improve his aggression and defensive aspects.

Has tools with limited opportunity left to make it but can still make it.

Need to get him to watch his mate Bont's tapes over the preseason. They played together all the way from junior to draft. Point out natural ability isn't enough at this level. Either desire for the contest or cry in your cornflakes.

Anyone know what was the predraft video that had Bont and Lennon in it called?

Scratch the above it wasn't Bont in the video:

"During the 2014 pre-season period Lennon starred in an AFL Media documentary called Draft Days. The documentary follows the progress of three players who are childhood friends and striving to be a part of the AFL draft. The other players are Jack Billings drafted by St Kilda and Luke McDonald drafted by North Melbourne.[7]"

This trade period would have been a huge eye opener for the kid. He must now firmly believe that his AFL career will officially be over if he doesn't do something in 2017. For that to happen he needs to bust a nut over the preseason and get into AFL shape. Kick up the rear that he required! Now to hopefully watch him answer his critics!

Best of luck kiddo.

I'm not sure how Mellor goes, but a forward coach of the Leppitsch ilk might be just the tonic for our lad. Scare him into action.

Definitely needs some extra coaching work during the off season. Keeping Handbrake away from him might be a good idea as well.

Yep, get the "carrot seller" to help him a bit, he was a pretty handy player

Firstly needs to get fit. Was set back by glandular fever last pre-season but played well in last part of 2015. Should have played final against North.

Challenge is there for him - high half forward role is his if he wants it badly enough, especially with Deledio going.

I dont see him vetting a game with lloyd being in the squad unless they play both looks like a good player bit slow and can be tackle we need a viduka defencive forward guess we will see

The little princess needs to get over himself, work hard and force his way into the team

Hope this kid will be a contributor next season. They'll be no glandular fever excuses this time next year. We need everyone with a bit of polish to step up.
