Beautiful Service

To all of you who missed today, it was my honour as a member of this messageboard to fill you all in on this. Shame for your sakes you couldn't make it today, but we all, as a 1, make this club what it is, and your thougts were there today. It was a very fitting send off, but is not yet over. Let's all go to Sunday's game and cheer that song louder and stronger than ever before.

I've just gotten home from watching the boys train and let me tell you, regardless of where we are on the ladder, for the first time this season, everyone was supporting each other and most noticably patting each other on the backs etc. Also Tom Roach, although only small in size, looks as though his heart is as big as Richo's. He just looks so excited. In my mind, that is what we need at the club. Today, everyone had it. Let's hope it's a permenent change for the sake of the club.

What i would've done to listen to a few stories from the old boys in the social club at Punt Road this arvo. A few beers and I'm sure a few stories, would've made me so happy.

Anyway, i hope you all get watch Fox Footy tonight, and appologies to those who can't. I hope I've help paint the picture a bit.

Thanks BA and KL for the great reports.

The service was replayed at 1.30 today, sorry i didnt read this earlier shawry. Im sure they will replay it again though.

I didnt go to the service as i couldnt get there, but i did watch it on foxtel. It was truly beautiful. KB's speech was very moving. I had tears in my eyes.

I will also mention this, that a lot of the players were visually upset. In particular, the ones I sat near who I see cleary and were emotional were Roden, Stafford, Coughlan, Campbell, Richo, Andrew kellaway, Pettifer, and even Rory Hilton. I cannot comment on others because i could not see them. So it would be wrong for me to pressume anything.
[/qoute]

From what i saw on tv (which wasnt much) Aaron Fiora looked quite emotional.

Was there myself and agree with the sentiments expressed so far. It was really awe inspiring to see so many greats of our club gathered together to honour the greatest of all.
Vale Jack and go tigers on Sunday

Great report BalmyAlmy and KL.

I was fortunate enough to get time from work to go to the church service, thanks to the wonderful people at work. I felt very honoured to have been part of such an occasion. It was very special for me to have been there.

I also went to the ground at 1.30pm.

They had Bing Crosby music playing and other songs from those years. Hundreds of supporters, club officials and players gathered on the Punt Road oval, around a huge No. 17 guernsey that had been painted on the arena.

Neville Crowe hosted proceedings.

Three cheers were given for Jack Dyer.

Barry from the Bush presented a poem in Jack's Honour, which was well received.

Clinton Casey then told the gathering of the events to follow on Sunday.

The players will be able to wear the No. 17 on the front of their jumpers, above their hearts, for the game on Sunday.

There will a minutes silence before the game and the national anthem will be sung.

The No. 17 will also be marked on the MCG turf.

Clinton Casey welcomed the Dyer to family to Punt Road and then 312 yellow and black balloons were then released, signifying the number of games Jack Dyer played.

The theme song was then sung by those in attendance.

(If anyone else was there and I've missed anything or slightly altered the events, please let me know).

Alleycat, I thought i would've spotted you today wearing your purple jumper and scarf, with blonde hair, but nothing. Didn't see you sorry.

I saw an interview with Anthony Mithen and Tommy hafey at punt road this afternoon, and I casually walked past in the background. So, if you know what channel he's on, (think it's 7), and you see the interview with t-shirt Tommy, then look for a 27 year old guy walking past in the background. I've got spikey hair and was wearing a black cashmere jacket. Good luck spotting me. lol

Thanks MC. Sounds like it was all handled with class and aplomb. Looking forward to more of the same on Sunday.

i was standing just near the race near the fence where th sausage sizzle was i was there with a mate and when we stood at the number 27 i was standing at the front closest to thefence next to a dude with a nude haircutr

I was standing next to Caroline Wilson on the south side of the 17. And it was a richmond gathering so there was plenty of nude haircuts. he he he. Maybe next time I'll wear face paint and then we might meet up.

Cheers Shawry. I'll watch Channel 9 too.

I wish I had been able to be at Punt Road for all of today's tributes - work committments prevented it.

I hope that this week will solidfy this CLub and in years to come we will all look back and think Wednesday 27/8/03 was another "Dyer" day and a defining moment in the history of the RFC - wouldn't that be a another fitting tribute to the man who in 1990 as KB said today "saved the Richmond Football Club again"

I think our Football Club has done us (as supporters) and the Dyer Family proud today Dean3

During the minute silence on Sunday both teams should
stand around the number 17 jumper on the ground and link arms thus showing that.

-1- Jack was a giant of the game and not just the Tigers
-2- Football is basically something that unites and not separates us
-3- A celebration of a great life is more important than petty interclub rivalries

Soccer can do this why can't we.

Great Idea CC. i pray also that while there is the minute silence - that everyone in the crowd stays silent! there is nothing that annoys me more then when at the footy, there is a minute silence and some idiot yells out something stupid. I cant stand when that happens.

Evening all.

I was fortunate enough to be at the Service with my father Kevin today. A very emotional service, and a wonderful tribute to Jack.
My site will have a small update after 6pm on www.rhettrospective.com

Thank you to those who have posted kind words about my father's eulogy.
Kind Regards
Rhett Bartlett

Here, here, Alleycat. When neville Crowe said we had a special guest speaker, I prayed it was Kevin Bartlett. It was, however, Barry from the Bush. No offence Barry.
