angus graham playing like a cardboard cutout

Thought Graham showed something last year but this year has gone backwards. For his size he just doesn't impose himself. Thought a straight forward mark that went straight through his hands at an important stage of the match yesterday really summed up Graham. Will be 25 by early in the season next year, can't see him imporiving to AFL level unfortunately.

Did we tank tonight?

Vickery slaughtering it in the ruck and around the ground fist 5 minutes of the last, we draw level and then he is summarily banished not to ruck again for the match.

We've done that all year, the coaching staff realised a while back that there is no point in flogging TV to death in the ruck because he wears down quickly and he’s such a good forward.

I wondered.

Fascinating use of D Martin in that last quarter. He swung the game with a 10 minute burst where he had a host of inside 50s, before going forward for a rest and kicked a goal. Straight off the field, which was probably fair enough at that stage.

He stayed off until North hit the front again, came back on and played full forward for the rest of the quarter.

Che?

Surely, another burst in the middle was in the offing? I only noticed because I was sitting with one of the three North Melb fans there and he soiled his pants when Martin came back on. Then he couldn't believe his luck that he stayed at the pointy end for the rest of the game.

I was ashamed to have Gus rucking for us he is not at the level.

I hope they dont get macIntosh either, he aint much better and what he would command would tear us a new one!
Gus is rubbish, good vfl player at best.

Thought the same thing. He set up each of our 3 last quarter goals. Got the first two centre clearances of the last term, then was rarely back in there again.

Twenty minutes into the third quarter there was a boundary throw-in on the Medallion Club wing. Gus is in position with no opposing ruckman. Goldstein is sprinting towards Gus, probably just off the interchange bench. As he gets within twenty metres Gus spots him from the corner of his eye and takes his eye off the ball. Goldstein might just make the throw-in. Gus looks back at the ball but as it comes in he looks again at Goldstein and misses the ball completely.

:duh

Our centre clearances certainly mproved when Vickery went into the middle at the start of the last quarter, and flatlined when Gus came back on the ground.

I just watched the replay of this and Goldstein was running from inside defensive 50 and he still won the hitout!

Whilst we are on the topic of ruckmen, I caught a few minutes of the Melb-PA game last night. Maybe it was the white jumper, or maybe it was over-use of padding but I thought Mark Jamar looked like Dean Rioli after a particularly hearty meal.

Aren't footballers supposed to stay out of the best paddocks until they retire?
