Alex Rance

Suggest you have a listen to David Astbury's retirement speech.
I love Astbury.
He couldve been part of the 'impenetrable' defence in 2022.
We will have the Great Wall of Punt rd.
Good luck kicking goals on Tarrant Broad Short & Baker Throw in Grimes and Big V the interceptor.
Scores for 2453 Scores against 55

Yeah that clears all the smoke, but you'd think there was a bit of a clash with Lynch coming in considering what Rance said on OTC that night.

Lynch took an apple cart to mad Monday that year. I'm tipping they all had a laugh about it and moved on as soon as he arrived.
Maybe Rance fell off the Apple cart?
Now he is on the cash converters apple cart at windy hill.
But the Apple cart is now full of bananas.

That's all well and good.
Rance played cracker games for us but the games that stand out for me where the big games against Collingwood and Adelaide.
We don't have all the same thoughts who is your greatest Richmond players.
Everyone's is tottaly different.
Absolutely. And even those views change over time.

I started off with No. 1 on my back (Paddy Guinane) but then switched to 24 (Billy Barrrot). But my all time favourite Tiger was Royce (but never wore his number.

Anyway, Rancey is gone, Zips. Now he's bobbed up in a very minor role with the Druggies. Big deal - not! :)

My best memories of rance were before the dynasty started when we collectively weren’t so crash hot

it felt like he was our best player by some margin then , the best defender in the comp,

I often think something changed within around the time the booing started ,seemed to lose his mojo.

Funnily enough the Drugs fans were major instigators in all that Rance bashing and diving slander along with Go Deez fans.

Now they'll be lauding his arrival.

His game against the swans in the last round of 2014 to get us into the finals was something to behold.
He was not going to be denied.
So many good games. He was somehow able to get to every contest at times.

At his peak he was wonderful to watch. Remember that game where the Power tried to tag him out if it? They tagged a defender! Worked for a half, too. Then Alex put on his Superman cape at half time, gave his opponent an absolute bath and we won the game.

Best defender I’ve seen in my time watching footy. Period.

Best spoiler the game has seen, over the last 50 years anyway.. Never seen anyone even close to Rance, when it came to choosing to go or not..

He was a brilliant player.

Yes, the way he left the club wasn't great and the timing was awful. Clearly there were issues, but we don't know what the issues were and the impression I get, with the evidence of Astbury's speech and reports of helping at Grimes' winery, is that the issues were all about his family and his faith. From what I know about JWs they can't get divorced, at least not easily, so that would be a major issue for him and we all know family break ups are very difficult.

He is going to a minor role at Essendon, a full 2 years later. Things change over time and maybe he is now ready to have some involvement in football and was offered a part time job by an old mate who now works at Essendon. Good luck to him, I hope he has sorted some of his personal issues as it seemed a difficult time for him. He quit playing for us which was disappointing, but that doesn't mean he can't get some work elsewhere a couple of years later.

We should all be thankful for his large contribution to our success.

That's what happens.....................................can't say I'd ever learn to like Old Salty Scott if he ever came to us.....................I might even start booing my own team...............even if they won!
