Alex Rance

I’ll back him in to be a gun once again. He is an elite trainer, doesn’t drink and is very motivated.

Good luck to him but jeez it will be hard to watch.
Reckon he took the 2019 gf knockback very hard.

3 years is a long time out of the game coupled with an ACL. If he can do it successfully it would be an incredible comeback.
The problem is, that's just the sort of challenge a guy like Rance would relish. If any one could, he will.

[Now just wondering if his unexplained, sudden departure was due to a fallout with Dimma. No contact with for 3 years; but still in contact with his former backline mentor, Rutten, who was only coach mentioned in departure speech].

Very much doubt it. Rance is the best defender I’ve ever seen as a full package. Irreplaceable. Balta has shown plenty but miles to go to get to how good Rance was.
Rance was the full package when Jake Stringer was still a parcel in his mother’s letter box

Rance has a provocative streak. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him at the Bombers in 2022.

What also wouldn’t surprise me is if he struggled big time.

Don’t do it, Alex. You were one of the very best.
Regardless of whether he played for us or elsewhere in 2022, it'd be a huge risk. Been out of the game a long time. Remember Lockett's comeback anyone?

Essendon have always scrapped the bottom of the barrel
When comes to recruiting

Franklin must be an absolute dud if Tross was no good 1V1,

Tross used to towel him up every time
people only think he wasnt great 1v1 because it was so noticeable when someone kicked a goal on him.
Except against the Swans when he would go to Franklin (until Buddy got moved to the wing to get a kick), Rance wold trot back to the goal square every week and line up against who the opposition sent to him, whether that was Tex Walker, Harry Taylor, Cyril Rioli or Jake Melksham. And he would typically stop them while still helping his teammates.

Long time out of the game ,

My gut feeling , he might still be more than handy but would struggle to be the athletic freak he was , and he might find that frustrating

Never Ellis is a legend
And loved by every person at punt Rd.
He was with Dusty and Cotchin 5 minutes after the Gc game.
The only X Richmond players i booed
Raines, Cloke, Powell, Ottens, Maxfield, Poole,
I booed cloke when he came back in 90
Would you boo if George left?

Some players seem to get better in the eyes of supporters when they are out of the game.

For some reason, with Rance he gets worse in the eyes of some supporters since he's been out of the game.

The best defender I've seen play for Richmond. Grimes is outstanding, but Rance was still a better overall player as much as I like Dylan.

I used to laugh when opposition supporters told me, "Rance doesn't play on anyone".

"Mate. He plays on everyone!" The D50 was his domain and if the ball came in he made himself responsible for it.

So good was Rancy that he started on his man ,then bolted towards the ball getting to a incredible amount of contests, holly crap he doubled the contests of many other AFL top 10 defenders even beating Talia who never ever ever leaves his man.
