Warms my heart to see vinyl making a comeback to music stores such as jb.
The album cover was such a part of my love of music when I was growing up but that has been virtually lost for over 2 decades as digital music evolved.
Used to stare at my covers for hours as a kid on my parents lounge room floor and saw them as a part of my own identity along with the artists I liked to listen to.
Thought that this might be a fun retro thread to post the album covers that you used to love too. Doesn't necessarily need to be the bands you liked more so the cover that you did.
I'll post a few of mine to get started..

I've got some, but these were the first two as a 9 year old curious kid sitting on the carpet in the wall-papered lounge room.

A couple of my parents that I used to be fascinated by.

This image always caught my attention for some reason.

Always loved this Janis Joplin and Big brother album with Classic Robert Grumb art. It all summed up the 60's for me:

That's great CMT.

Also like that Ghost in the Machine Police cover TF.

And there was nothing better than the thrill of a release date for an album and going to the record store to buy it. Then, as you say, sitting down going over the cover, looking through the sleeves, lyrics while giving it the first listen.
Classic Iron Maiden there.

Love it Disco. Used to thumb through the covers in record stores for what must have been hours on end back in the day.
I have no doubt that the value of music was reduced when the digital age came along.
We used to see value in a physical, tangible object of the album. It wasn't just about the music.

My wife actually bought me one of those cheap turntable for Christmas so I could bring out some old vinyl. Sound quality is horrendous but was fun to give it a go again.
I found myself on the floor doing exactly what we described.

I love the sound of vinyl records/turntable, crackles and all. I've got hundreds of them but don't play them near enough. Knew they'd be in fashion again one day. :-[

Black Sabbath Paranoid, all time top 10 record for me. Still pull it out at least once a fortnight. Planet caravan the most underrated psych-rock song of all time (they played it during a break in the third test!!!) Tony Iommi RIP. Love everything about it.

Also Van Halen 1984, still got my copy I got at Brashes the week it came out, the smoking kid, every track a winner...

Well done Tooheys, you sure can make a great thread, it'll get to 100 pages pretty quick!

Best album The Who ever did. Made popular again by that TV show CSI.
