it gets to splitting hairs doesn't it? how long is a piece of string stuff...

if it is truly excessive - truckin the truck trucked the trucker - then cool it.
'runt' does hold the prize as most offensive 'swear' word. this term is often used when you really mean something and you're not just venting.

the AFL needs to provide clarification. is Twerp as bad as Maggot?

Is white maggot less offensive than a colored maggot?

Harrys question has far reaching socio philosophical connotations ...

Your third one is not acceptable in this country as it suggests animal cruelty. Arse is the correct orifice for umpire whistle insertion.

DA I think you've been watching Monty Python's Bruce sketch :hihi Makes Izzy Folau look like a saint!

Is telling a player he's a **** wit because he can't kick straight, worse than calling an umpire a green maggot?

There's some harden the **** up needing to happen.

personally, I heckle players and really dont like hearing them abused, UNLESS they belt a tiger player excessively,

then I instinctively suspend my beliefs.

I would yell 'you dirty *smile* Buddy/Mummy' and look sheepishly around to see if I offended anyone and apologise.

often they're go 'you're right mate, he is a bit of a dirty *smile*'

I would've busted out a huge 'you greeeeeeeen MAGGOT', spraying beer and pie in a large arc and heard across the section, at least once probably every single game Ive ever been to.

The nice thing about the Green Maggot cry, is the only person in the entire stadium who would be offended, doesn't hear you.

Yep, all bets are off in that situation.

Wouldn't call a player a *smile*wit just for missing a goal, but that's just me.

Which is really the problem, and why the AFL won't supply a defintiion of approved barracking - the line is in a different place for everyone. Yet somehow a happy medium is usually tacitly achieved.

All very interesting Easy but the issue is that it's not about individual swear words, its about language that is "interpreted" as abuse, such as green maggot and bald headed flog, both of which are not swear words.
I'm personally looking forward to them kicking me out for screaming " these pretzels are making me thirsty"
Those mucking runts.

There is one major thing that concerns me , and people haven't really commented on, in this instance. Apparently umpire Nicholls took offence not because he was called a bald headed flog, but because he THOUGHT he heard something else, more offensive. If this is the case and he misheard what was said, this supporter was interrogated because of what someone else THOUGHT was said. I haven't heard the AFL come out and apologise to this guy because the umpire got it wrong. If they are going to start questioning, evicting and/or banning supporters because of what other think they hear, then we are in more trouble than what I thought we were

The AFL didn't make any such claim in its lengthy official statement following the review. It seems to be standard practice to spread fake news in order to discredit ejected fans. A WA newspaper actually had a link to the report nearly a week after the incident claiming "Victorian fan ejected for homophobic slur". Another false claim made against the fan are that he "ran across two bays shouting and flapping his arms like a madman" and that he was leaning over the umpires' race to deliver abuse; the fan said he was standing at his seat and had the ticket to prove it. Nicholls also claimed (according to Gil) that it was the most intimidated he'd felt in hundreds of games of umpiring. The words he thought he'd heard must've been pretty powerful!

Doubt he'd get very far with legal action, but he can't be blamed for thinking about it when he's been publicly stitched up like that.

probably depends if the game has started yet.

Either he has just got his hearing back or they are both full of *smile*.

Far worse would have been said to him just about every week.

This is a joke. Need to keep the pressure on as they are doing a little back pedaling, they need to be forced right back to where the fans get to vent our spleens at the footy once again. They are trying to sanitise the game and pushing further than they think they will get away with, but, hoping to push the agenda a little every chance they get.

The AFL don’t even admit umpires get it wrong let alone apologise.
