I gather your forum name is ironic.

Too my knowledge, not many companies/industries have the right to force an employee to have a drug test - aside from those for which impairment can kill (eg airline pilot, truck driver). Even fewer employers have the right to test an employee when they're on holiday.
Not with the current AFL policy.lukeanddad said:It's perfectly fine for a company to take action if an employee's work performance is affected by drugs, including alcohol of course. This certainly happens where I work.
That is something we agree on. I don't think the clubs should be able to do testing while the players are on a break.Even fewer employers have the right to test an employee when they're on holiday.

commonsense said:Huh!!! what was that , nothing like drawing a very long bow. Here's another. I liked to drink and drive but I don't because it is ILLEGAL , you get caught you lose your job , even if I am on holidays. I repeat it is illegal and can cause injury ,illness or death just like ILLEGAL drugs. To do so would be a choice.

Baloo said:That's one aspect of the policy and one I think should be dropped. What they do on their breaks in the off season is up to them. With the only caveat being is if they get caught either by the law or tabvloid press, they can expect that the club has the right to impose sanctions even if that means instant dismissal for tarnishing the image of the Club (Company).
commonsense said:No they are not illegal. And sorry lukeanddad the underlying theme on this has to be, is it Ok to do illegal things at any time without consequences when and if you are caught.
commonsense said:Sorry Baloo isn't that just saying it is ok to do anything illegal in offseason as long as they don't get caught. There has to be a road less travelled here.
Baloo said:Not at all. No one is saying it's ok to do anything illegal. The question is whether the employer has the right to test for anything illegal while the employee is on holiday.
