Adem Yze

Lynch, Taranto, Short.
Reckon Baker deserves to be in their as well. I don't see my boy Shorty as being in that group. Seems to play the energizer bunny lippy little man that every group needs and loves.

Outside of 2022 where he played 23 games, Nank has struggled to play a full season since 2018. Seasons of 12, 11, 16 and 15 games tells you, as a battered 30 year old, he will probably miss games (hence Naismith recruitment).

So, for vice captains I think we need someone who can step up now as well as someone who is an emerging captain of the future.

One thing I learned from Jack's book is how inspiring Cotch was for his personal acts at important parts of important games. E.g. the first bounce of the first quarter in the 2019 PF v Geelong, the tackle on Mumford in the 2019 GF etc.

Nank is one I could see being equally inspirational in that way.

As a back-up, Graham could be the same. Jack talked about his heroics in the 2019 PF playing with a busted shoulder and how the leadership group resolved that he would be an automatic winner of the Francis Bourke award that year regardless of the number of votes he got.

As a longer term emerging option, maybe Banks?

Jack Graham didn’t fire on all cylinders this year but on the few glimpses we have seen of him lately he looks already in much better shape physically. I’m optimistic he can get back to his best in the early rounds.

Would help if we didn’t play him as a half forward.
Graham is a mid and if he can’t get a game playing that role then he plays vfl imo.
He could tag as well if Yze decides to play a tagger

Should be in the rotations , I don’t buy that hopper has a mortage on that

Love the emphasis Yze puts on the kids in every interview. Excited to see how we line up early in the season, particularly with the stupid round 0 and subsequent 5 day break to round 1, could see a vastly different side line up over those 2 weeks!

Baker strikes me as a corporal, not a lieutenant.

A man who sees the future without living in the past regarding best 22. Going to be a very interesting season

If Yze is bringing all out attack the corridor footy in 2024 we will surprise quite a few people.

Yep - this is where those 15m dart passes will come into play. Gotta pick our way through with passing triangles.

Hardwick never mandated this - his offensive strategy was the swarm.

Alternatively, if the oppo pushes into the short zone to counter the tactic, that’s where the 40m+ switch is on.

Or if the ball is not in the “right” hands, a swift lateral slice into the oppo flank. Patient but productive.

Sounds like Yze will demand surgical transition with supreme gut running to constantly present targets and confound oppo defensive structures.

AngeBall at Punt Rd

With a more stay at home defensive insurance policy than we’ve been used to with Hardwick is my tip for 2024.

I like it, should be an entertaining ride.

I agree but a change in tactics like this is going to take some time. I expect some bumps in the road

This is exactly how teams picked us apart in 2023 so our defensive structure is just as important as the attack. We have to stop being witches’ hats

The Club obviously sees nank as a gun around the ground, statisticly in 2023 he was outstanding, so the paid experts see it way differently than some fans.

As ever it will come down to the cattle to execute Yze's game plan.

I remember when Dimma first arrived saying he knew what the blueprint looked like to be a successful side, it was more about having the personnel to deliver on it. At first we were the worst team since Fitzroy but slowly & surely those that couldn't do what he wanted were weeded out.
Coupled with that yes we had a surge aspect to our game but ultimately Harwick & his footy dept sculpted a team based primarily on defensive aspects of the game rather than elite football skills. Pressure kings, destroy what's beautiful. Attack on the rebound. Chaos ball.

Yze's approach is almost a complete 360 from that. The right approach & the only way forward after the SHocking rule changes.

But our list is definitely behind the 8 ball if kicking precision is the crux of it.

It's going to take time & patience...

Agree entirely ToO, but I really don’t like the aesthetics of that type of game. No contests and in-your-face pressure except when trying to win the ball back and create a turnover. However it is a successful gamestyle when attacking as Melbourne showed. Melbourne’s style is load up the defence and attack from there with short sharp kicks until clear then run like hell back toward goal.
The Collingwood style is probably closer to our “Dimma" style of full ground pressure, then turnover and kick fast and long - but with better kicking.
Let’s see what our final style will look like.

The modern game accentuates the original basis of Australian Rule Football. It is a game of keepings off - you got the ball the opposition cannot score goals. The precision of disposals is paramount in today's game.

And IMO unless someone has waved a magic wand, precision passing is not one of any of our players fortes......

Disagree. Buckley and Chris Scott (before he changed his style in 21/22) were all about precision disposal and keepings off. They got zero flags and turned the game into a snorefest.

Have a look at the last couple of flags. Keepings off all over the park by forward handballs and lace out deliveries.

Well said but yes the Pies crisp disposal is a discernible difference to our previous era. Every team in the comp will be trying to emulate it.
