Acceptance - we are now a middling side

Folks have gotta consider that a midfield of Prestia, Hop, Taranto and Sonsie would greatly benefit from a tap ruckman like Soldo and the urgent need for speed injection is marginally less dire

UNLESS WE CAN REPLACE THE OLD WITH THE NEW.

Its not a matter of replacing ageing champs,

Its a matter of reducing their workload.

Currently cotchy and JR and grimes are working like borrowed utes.

in: sonz, gibcus, cumbo, sampa, tarrant

Reduces their load significantly.

Our best 22 includes the champs, and will prove to be the best 22 in late september

B: gibbo tarrant broad
Hb: vlastuin balta rioli
C: pickett sonsie kmac
Hf clarke sampson baker
Ff: martin lynch $hai

Foll: nank, hopper, tarranto

Int: cotchy, Jr, grimes, dion

Emg: cumberland, mrj, shorty, jg,

(I know i will have left a premiership hero out inadvertantly)

Ponder that interchange bench and emergency list. We bat deep. That 22 has a wonderful blend of speed, strength, youth, experience and footballer

The notion that is a middling list, whilst certainly improving the liklihood of a premiership, is reactionary imo.

Time for the champs to enjoy a crochetted black and yellow blanky on the knees on cold wet nights,

Where the young footballers do the heavy lifting, under expert guidance,

This is the champs time in the sun

The Last Dance.

whilst it is fair and reasonable to store faith in Hardwick (all time great coach) he has never had to confront the issue of mortality within his Old Guard. Riewoldt, Cotchin and now even Grimes and Nankervis must all come under the microscope at some point.
Tross, Grigga, Lids, ( though he was initially sideways ) *smile*, Bash, Shedda, Lamblett. Pretty sure that's already a few corpses from the old guard Night Carter.
Got a feeling that Dimma, as with nearly all fans know that there's still a few more blokes gunna be falling off the perch by seasons end and in the next few years as well. Only issue is how to get through it with a bit of courtesy n respect of the careers these players have had and the joy and success they've given us. While also ensuring that the youngsters coming through get not only enough game to develop their careers but also the senior support that enables them to at the least remain competitive within games and the season ahead while also getting to understand the values the club has established and wants to continue to maintain.

Many of our players have lost that killer instinct, the hunt of the ball and the man is lacking, and you could see Collingwood had that fire in them.

Richmond has the ability, do they have the hunger?

Spot on
I've haven't seen our side short step or baulk body contact bit they did it all night on Friday.
Ross, D Rioli, Bolton,

Question? Last week they were talking about us on foxtel and Jordan Lewis said at the end of 2016 Deledio wasn't the only one wanting out.
Is this bullshiit?? It wasn't in any books Balmes? Etc

The appetite in march is different to september.

You simply cant do raging bull for 6 months

middling,piddling.....................no matter what happens when this round finishes we will sit above Geelong........................(piddling)

We desperately need to clean up our forward entries.
Too many hack kick and hope. The chaos game plan of get it in quick by any means isn’t working. Key forwards don’t get separation or the kicks are sent into contests where Lynch and JR are double or triple teamed. Where are our loose men? Are they still getting back from pushing up the ground?
It just seems like we do the same thing time after time and hope for a different result. Too many forward forays result in the ball coming back out far too easy without any impact on the scoreboard.

It really needs work

Give me a fast finishing horse to a dour front runner every day.

In 2018 from R5 onwards we were either 1st or 2nd on the ladder (1st from R13-23) and ended up 2 games on top of the ladder with 15% more than the 2nd highest %age. We kept winning, but there were some worrying signs leading into finals. Momentum had deserted us. We all know what happened.

In 2019 we were 9th at the bye with a 7-6 record and a %age of 92. Totally written off. Won every game thereafter on the way to winning the first leg of back-2-back flags. No one could get close to us after the bye, probably the best block of game I've ever seen from the Tiges.

Even in 2020 we were 14th (1-1-2) after R4 with a %age of 87. Tigers can't go B2B from here was the call. Got our game together and went B2B.

Collingwood are March champions...congrats. Lots can happen between now and September. Very hard to have momentum coming into finals when you're playing so well early on.

The Tiges are midfield in the back straight, jockeying for position. Come the home bend we'll be one out and one back ready to pounce.

It's all about hitting the finals peaking with momentum.

Plenty on here have totally erased 2021 when we were a middling side, 2022 showed some improvement but shades of the dead cat bounce. The 8-10 imminent retirements are fact, looking at the cupboard I sense plenty of cheap patchwork coming up, plenty of learning curve trial and error. Since 2017 we've plodded along stocking up on flankers & have only added Sonsie to the list of potential A grade midfielders, this shortfall has led to a raid on future picks, something which should have been reserved for the spine & quality ball winners. It's a complete reverse of the Jackson era where the hard parts were replaced from the outset and the cherry on top flankers sourced from down the draft order and much later in the game. Taranto & Hopper didn't hand GWS a cup, despite having an AA quality spine & blue ribbon mids such as Kelly, Ward, Coniglio & host of other cast-offs. Spending big on inside mids didn't hand Hawthorn a reprieve, it actually made them the middling poster boys.

I understand the notion of cultural fabric, but every game we lose with the old guard are invaluable games we could’ve put into the kids.

The clock is ticking and we only have 3-4 years of peak Hopper and Taranto

Lol you’re that burrito guy

I could be wrong but this team looks terminally slow

The kind of slow that can only be fixed with youth.

No more ‘building into a season’ for this group. Changing of the guard will happen sooner than you think.

We need to get 18 games into Sonsie, Young, Cumberland, Ryan, Gibcus, Clarke in 2023

12 games into Banks, Green, Campbell, Brown, Biggie

Give Bauer a look at some point

Hopper and Taranto aren’t young - we need to load up now, even if we miss finals because of it.

But please mr burrito, stick with your fantasy of never ending sunshine with Cotchin Riewoldt and co
Sorry mate forgot you know everything and are never wrong. Oh, forgot sorry, been proved many times. Enjoy your world of negativity mate.

I think we are doing pretty well coming off a dynasty. The Cats are really the only recent team that has been able to stay in contention. The Hawks and Lions both spent a fair while not being relevant.

Cotch, Dusty, Jack and Dylan are still great players but obliviously not what they once were. We have also lost three key players/role that were critical to our overall speed and running power. Houli, Lambert and that second small forward with speed and elite pressure (George, Butts). Lambert was elite at getting from contest to contest and helping us outnumber the opposition (The poor bloke is really battling to walk on and off the field now at quarter and three quarter time).

I think we need to look at our selection and we may need to play blokes like Juddy, Hugo and Mansell over some slower players like Graham and Ross to help our leg speed problem.

I thought the Taranto/Hopper trade would put us in the premiership race again but I think it will be more to keep us competitive when the likes of Cotch and Dion retire. I think over the next three years we just need to keep our draft picks and use free agency to plug the holes in our list.

Salary cap is now the issue. We always knew this would be coming.
The price of success.
Watch the replays of Dusty and you will all be just fine.
Doubt that we will see it live again.
But that is okay.

You know I was beginning to make peace with us becoming an average side again.

Now Carter's made this thread and I'm going to have to deal with the anxiety of Grand Final day again.

To be fair, Carter may finally have become right about the giant tantrum thread he made after the prelim in 2018. Collingwood may actually have gone past us now.

I mean, we won two premierships in the meantime, but still.
