Acceptance - we are now a middling side

I have a bloke at my work at the moment (not sport).
Hes been there for 15 years. Great guy.
But now...basically does nothing.
Doesn't work his hours, cuts corners looks unhappy, is lazy and others around him including me have had enough of him not putting in the effort.

Went up to him a while ago and said, whats the go?

He said...im over it, I'm just done with this place now. I don't enjoy being here. But will see it out another year or two and then I'm gone.

Hes still there 12 months later and as a result place is struggling with him being there and a bit of the respect he once had is gone.

He is actually the manager and place is terrible atm. All systems are gone, employees do what they want, when they want.

Interessting.
Being 15 years, I've known 2 maybe 3 people in my previous job did this just waiting to be made redundant (which the company hesitate in doing) for the big payout $$$$$$$$$

Hold on a sec

Dangerfield vs Cotchin

At the moment, no contest

Hawkins vs Riewoldt

Again no contest

Geelong’s senior players are more durable than ours. An inconvenient truth but truth nonetheless.

We are stuffed if we can’t find a spark from somewhere.
Selective posting Carter.

You failed to mention Geelongs biggest weapon is playing whilst ours in trotting around in a moon boot - Cameron vs Lynch

Plus what about our ruck?

Also Jack kicked 4 goals last week with a busted head.

Cmon Aces Geelong would’ve pantsed Sydney without Cameron last night.

They are humming with cohesion and purpose

We are not.

It’s not just Cameron. It’s all the other pieces that are missing. Geelong don’t have that.

Cats a miles ahead of us people are deluded we have no cohesion let alone skills worse then juniors.

Also ignoring that Hawkins kicked 3 goals, with an average of 8 disposals in the Cats first 3 losses- has since kicked 11 goals in the 3 games the Cats have averaged 20 goals per game. Maybe he has suddenly returned to form, maybe not.

That's just deflecting responsibility, Melbourne lost their captain but they recruited a back-up & stock piled talls for added depth. If you are not planning for all eventualities then you are not planning effectively.
We are missing our 2 rucks, but still put out Miller and Ryan- not great, but not terrible. If Gawn and Grundy (31yo & 29yo) are missing who rucks for the Dees? Schache is their next tallest, their only other ruck on the list is a 19yo who hasnt played a game (and is currently injured).
The Dees have 15 guys 192cm or taller- we have 16. With no talls, besides the rookie ruck currently injured, the Dees VFL spine includes 3 30yos. and 3 kids who have played 1 game in the AFL combined.
Maybe take out Gawn (Nank), Grundy (Soldo), May (Tarrant), Brown (Lynch), Petty (Broad), Van Rooyen (Gibcus), plus their equivalents of Biggie and Bradtke and then we can see how their key position depth looks.

We are the epitome of average.

Decorated but fading war horses, a decent middle bracket and some promising - but still unseasoned - kids.

We’ll jag a few wins against lesser opponents and finish a comfortably numb 12th.

Average.

You could be right… but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

We got Short back and looked a bit better tonight… still too many youngsters making silly mistakes and a veteran who couldn’t stand up… be nice to get Broad back next… be even better if we could get Soldo back. A proper ruck with an AFL body would help a lot.

A proper ruck, 100 % agreed

Nankervis ain’t that, he is a liability in 2023

we are certainly in transition - aging stars not at their previous high levels

of the youth, I think we should persist with Ryan, Young, Cumberland, Sonsie, Clark, Gibcus

not sure Miller, Rioli, Mansell, Ralphsmith will make it

Boy oh boy!
Never thought the drop off would come so quickly, be so big or this bad.
Lots of grinding work ahead for the rest of the season.
Some really big questions now being asked of Dimma and this team.
Gotta keep putting games into the younger players ... no matter the scoreboard.
What must Taranto and Hopper be thinking right now?!?!

yeah - middling side I would take right now - we are a bottom 4 side.

Sad - our older players can’t provide the support for our younger players to learn so we can’t drop our old players who are underperforming - Jack and Cotch for example today as they both had mares.

Where do we go apart from getting another 16 games into our younger players to see who can show something - 4pts now becoming irrelevant.

I think we've still got to aim for finals, as unlikely as it seems right now. Without our first rounder this year I don't see the point of playing any more youth than we currently are otherwise we'll be even less competitive. Unless the kids are banging down the door at VFL level I think we've got to hold out hope that the likes of Nank, Graham and Lynch returning will bring back some form to the team and we have a stronger finish to the year.

Tigers are crashing into irrelevance at twice the speed the Mighty Hawks side did.

Sobering.

What's the point when we play like this? Just trade one or 2 seniors for 1st rd pick. Door should be wide open now.

It's a difficult one, BT
There's not going to be THE right way, but I'm not so sure the additions of the players you mention, which is a way off yet I believe, is going to add the dynamic that would override the plan to put games into players.
Let's see what's in the cupboard and know where we stand with the players filling out the list. Maybe a broom will be in order come season's end ... retirements, aggressive trading of players with currency and de-listings.
Whichever way it is done, there's going to be a lot of head scratching for the remainder of the season.
