2023 Women's World Cup

I snagged a ticket for Saturday, but getting to the semi will be too hard if we get through. I hope Lauren James gets 2 games though

Same reason I'm not going to the semi, mid week games are much harder to get to, but an Australia vs England semi would be awesome. I'm going to the final and as a born and bred Englishman that has lived in Aus now for 14 years, it would be great to see 1 of them in the final in a couple of weeks.

I know why you hope James gets 2 ;) Hoping its only 1, whilst it deserved a red, I don't think it deserves more than 1 game of tournament football. She is our version of Mary Fowler I think, both very important and both young with massive future potential too.

knowing me, if we win on Saturday, i will try to get to Sydney on Wednesday :))

I was never planning on going to Brisbane this week until I was.

Yeah looking forward to the atmosphere, should be a good one.

Colombia were definitely better than Jamaica and from a game perspective, it will be a much better game vs Colombia than against Jamaica. As we know from the first few seasons of AFLW, its much easier to teach weaker players defensive systems than offensive and you saw that with Jamaica this tournament, less quality so I think they scored 1 goal, but they also only conceded 1 goal. Defensively very good, but weak offensively. Nigeria played a strong defensive game to stifle England and Jamaica would have done the same so the game should be a lot more open against Colombia as they will attack us, but that should hopefully leave more gaps for England to exploit too.

I'm relatively confident as we are also strong defensively (1 goal conceded and that was from the penalty spot) but we need to have more going forward. James I think would have been perfect for this game which is a shame.
And that is one of the nuances of the sport as a whole. Some of the great underdog stories of the FA Cup. Where a lower league team goes on a Goldilocks run, deep into the later stages of the cup. Generally built on a similar principal.

The other example of that in this particular world cup was Ireland as far as I watched. Not a particularly fancied team. Certainly competent, but no massive star power. Found themselves in a really tough group. Sure, finished at the bottom of the group, but never looked outclassed or out of their depth. Were in every match. Built on rock solid defence. I was quite impressed at how they played against Australia in the first round. Who knows, had history have been different and they convinced Mary Fowler to play for them, they may have had that one dynamic star to complement the solid defensive foundations they are built on.

All games are tough. We will have to defend well on Saturday. and the fans just have to bring the noise.
Our defence is fairly solid. Hunt has been impressive as a relative newbie. From the matches I've watched so far, we'd have to be the top counter attacking team in the comp. Foord and Raso have some pace on them. Add Kerr to the mix and it will be interesting.

Beat France. Beat Columbia. Then I reckon we'll meet Japan in the final.

that is 100% wrong.
I have no idea, as I said that is what I was told

FIFA rules dictate a venue needs be empty for 2 weeks before the tournament and 1 week after- so basically 7 weeks (tho you could probably squeeze in a Friday night at the start and a Sunday game at the end.

I assume that is wrong as well?

How about Morocco - making it through the group stages into the round of 16 and ranked 70 in the world. That was some effort.

There was a state of origin at Stadium Australia 8 days before the Ireland opener. So you can't say FIFA's rules are set in stone.

Anyway, that's not the slightest bit related to my point. No larger stadium was ever offered by the AFL or VIC Government, nor did Football Australia ask to get access to a bigger stadium.

All I have said is that it is what I was told. FWIW the person who told me Marvel was offered is someone who works at the AFL. It was fully costed out.

I don’t really care, just passed it on

Non-preferred foot?

No idea really. Would have to see her take a free kick or penalty to work out what her preferred is. During general play she doesn't seem to favour one side over the other.

Non-preferred foot?

Back on women and fun and competitiveness in relation to men; i get the impression

Hayley rasso would kick trent cotchins head off if he was between her and a ball?
She would, but she would smile while doing it.

Lauren James has copped a 2 game ban for her stomp, she'll miss the semi final should they make it. Good news for the Matildas if they defeat France.

Spain through. Viva Espana!
Sweden look nervous against Japan. Go Japan, make 'em more nervous.

Geez what an embarrassment CH7 are. Worst coverage of anything I've ever seen.
It's a World Cup FFS. Stupid people with no idea that have missed a trick.

I'll give you the hot tip, they won't be beating France imo barring a miracle.
France are a much better team, they'll need to be off their game or us be at an unbelievable level.
Although we did beat them in a recent friendly.
