Taranto won it easily as expected.
What a tremendous first season. Congrats to him. Very well deserved
From the moment he turned up to the club at preseason he put the rest of them to shame & didn't let up until our season was cooked.
Hope he can lead us to a flag.

If Yze's going to be as attacking as they are saying, I think Shai is going to love playing for him.
I'm sure Shai's gonna have to put up with his 'burning teammates' and 'lazy kicks' criticism he'll cop. Tough times.

Agree with the general view of this being a very average night, both for the fans at home but also had the feeling that the players were flat, drunk and disinterested. Was it the announcement today that mini is leaving? Significant changes happening, no coach’s speech reviewing the year and pumping up the next one, the loss of 2 greats, and the players have turned up at the B&F to meet the new coach.

Very weird.

But congratulations Tim Taranto on a well-deserved medal, and for a speech that reflected the event.

Why did Bkair have to do that? Where was Shai thinking of going?
Shai said they talked about him going home "back in the day" but now he sees Melbourne as his home.

From the RFC website.
Taranto is the first player to win the Jack Dyer Medal in their debut season after being recruited from a rival league club since Barry Rowlings in 1979, and adds to his 2019 Best and Fairest award won at Greater Western Sydney.
Maurice wasn't recruited from a rival league club, he was recruited from a rival league. And won the JDM in 1982 and 83, his first two years.

One thing that is apparent to me is the dearth of confident public speakers within our club.

With the retirements of Cotch Jack, and Lambo, Rance, Bash Grigg and Sheds the senior' blokes who would all confidently handle the media have pretty much gone.

Nank hates the media; Dustin hates the media and the brothers whilst all amazing players are all very uncomfortable with public speaking.

Bakes and Broad are stepping into it but still a bit laconic as is Nick Vlastuin, and Tommy Lynch also has never been a confident speaker in front of the media.

Timmys gonna have a lot of media to do going forward, along with Dylan, and Shorty who is a pretty confident speaker also.

Agree. Lynchy's the 'get over and done with' face.

How did Jack Ross not finish top 20!? He had a much better year than McIntosh (who I hope we don’t see much of at all in 2024!! Surely we’ve gone past him butchering it all game on the wing now).

Wow a 20 second runners up speech by Dusty, now that's money's worth for any members that coughed up the money to go .
Very poor effort by Dusty. Almost certainly a nail in any captain talk (I was a supporter). No excuses, you’re amongst friends, just came 2nd in JD medal, farewelling two all time greats and meeting your new coach for the first time!
Should be spoken to sternly by the hierarchy. Good way to lift the standard from day 1 of the changing of the guard

Well said Grumpy, agree with a lot of that.

Pretty poor that the players are only meeting Adem Yze for the first time tonight.

Fantastic to see Broady be rewarded with Francis Bourke award. Has been an amazingly consistent player who is bordering on a club champion. Extremely underrated in the comp, and I think not far off Tom Stewart.
The more I think of it, the more I believe he would make a great wingman, taking over McIntosh role. Running machine, very good mark, skilled on both feet and knows how to kick a goal.

They were on a players trip to Thailand, which would have been organised way before we appointed Yze. I don't think there is anything in it other than bad timing, with the players being away when we appointed him.

Most have been overseas. Most new coaches don’t meet players until preseason starts. I think too much is being read here. The coverage was *smile*. That’s all we can take from tonight.
