2021 Draft Thread

And so I doubt that we take Schlensog with effectively pick 28.
We could trade it.
But why did we earlier trade 2 later picks into 27, instead of keeping the later pick for the mature pick.
It doesnt sound like a well planned approach, which the club typically has. So I doubt we take him.
We will find out soon!

Sinn, Rachele, Sonsie.
All had the runs on the board before the pandemic.
2 have minor injury issues that may have held them back, but they've not gone backwards on the footy field, just by not playing when the west did.

I am a big Hobbs fan but the boy Sinn is catapulting up the ranks.
Reminds me of Whitfield.
I don't believe his kicking is Whitfield class, he has the range but not the accuracy. The only reason to pick him so high is that you firmly believe he will be a Chris Judd type midfielder. As a genuine wingman? No need to spend a top ten pick, especially with the injury history & lack of exposure. Form at u/16 level should be treated with extreme caution, it doesn't always translate to AFL level.

Yes fair call, 5 games in 30 months and a January birth date, not sure I would be risking a top 10 pick on him. Our second pick, no worries at all, we can take more of a gamble.

This has been argued before as many thought we paid too much for Collingwood’s 27.
Don’t think we will be trying to trade any of the 5 unless we do great on the first night with 9 and 17 and something extremely strong is still available in the second round,
Five of those set out below is a real chance and would be a great result.

9 Erasmus/Johnson
17Johnson/Fahey/Goater/Knevitt.
29 Alleer.
30 Fejo.
31 Knevitt/MacDonald/Sheldrick.

Knevitt is a interesting player for me , I am drawn to his size and athleticism as well as what he can potentially develop into in 3-4 years
If available at our picks 26-28 the gambler in me is excited

Agree. On all fronts.

Whitfield is elite by foot. Sinn can be terrible at times (Sheahan tried to defend it in one of the trial games.)

What would we need another clearance off half back/wing type of player for ? One with injuries ? Could probably pick up the equal or better of that positional type much later In the Draft.

I mentioned a few weeks ago I had this recurring thought that Sinn would be an early selection for us. Saw him as a classic over reach type that we might fall for. History shows that when we stay standard and to what‘s expected in terms of ranking and selection we do ok eg Cotchin, Martin, Vlaustin. When we get a bit abstract we get ourselves into trouble eg Conca. Hoping this is a bit of a ruse.

Not a fan of Sinn at 9, too outside imo. We desperately need a clearance player. Be it Hobbs or Ward. No point having that outside class (Sinn) if you have no one to get it out of the contest to them

He doesn’t have class. Not at the moment anyway. He can run and spread and break lines, and looks great doing so, but for me his kicking currently is not of a standard to put him into that definable “class” category.

I note Draft Central describe his areas for improvement as being 1) kicking consistency and 2) composure. Couple of other Draft sites have mentioned similar.

Still hope we can pull off a Gibcus/Hobbs double. Also want Wilmot somehow. Maybe trade 26 and 27 to Brisbane for 18, pick Gibcus at 9 and hope Hobbs slides to 17, Wilmot with 18.

I wouldn't want Schlensog anywhere near Punt Rd

It would certainly be anti-climatic if we took Sinn with our first, particularly as there is likely to be at least one excellent player (Hobbs, Ward or Gibcus) still available.

Just hope that if this happens we pick up a surprise slider at 17. In 2017 I remember being so aghast that we’d taken CCJ ahead of Oscar Allen that I failed to properly register that we’d taken Noah Balta (who I was also keen on) with our next pick.
