2012 Draft Order

Even with all the compo garbage etc do we still get Pick 9 ?

Might depend on movement of free agents and compo picks the teams receive in return.

Re: draft order this year

Can I interest you in our junior footballers board?

Didn't we also activate our compo pick that Adelaide got for Bock or a compo pick we traded for with gold coast last year?

we got Ports compo which will come in at around pick 30, an excellent result considering the Adelaide pick has lost a lot of currency since last year.

To be precise it's gone from 24 to 29. And we got Elton for that downgrade.

Could someone tell me our draft order, including our compo pick,

And discuss who we should target with them

Yes what are our picks in the draft from first to last at the moment as it stands?

Elton and Morris have been virtual freebies, we're finally discovering the art of list building.

And seeing as Viney and Daniher will get picked up before this pick, its really a live pick #27.

Drafts and Trading 2012

So, this year I see the Tigers picks as below. Does anyone have any insights into any priority picks and such other clubs may have to skew this? There will be a couple!

Tigers Picks are approximately: 7, 24 (Port Adelaide compensation pick), 26 (2nd round), 44, 62.

I can see our pick around 24 or 26 being traded.

I hope you're wrong. Obviously when clubs trade picks for players etc it means ultimately some club ends up with more picks than it started with. That club however is never Richmond for some reason. It seems ingrained in the club that if we don't give away a draft pick or two then the trading period has been a failure. Not sure why that is, we can develop young players now, we never could under Wallet. You're probably right it will happen but personally I hope we don't.

Were you upset with our Ivan Maric trade? Other than that, our trading last year was spot on.

For every one we get right how many have we got wrong? Considering the string of disasters that proceeded Maric one was bound to work sooner or later. Again would prefer to hold onto our picks and some (and lets not forget that we managed to get Maric last year and still actually improve our overall draft position - again a bit different than simply just giving them away).

Clinging onto the distant past I would have thought, since Hardwick took over there's been very little in the way of trading high draft picks. We've actually been the active ones in offloading the passengers, and have gained players like Morris, Elton, Houli and Grigg with some deft manouvering. The days of Sanchez and co. are seemingly over.

You mean except the last 3 years?

2009: Gained 43 for Raines and 71 for Schulz. (Net result: gained 2 picks)
2010: Gained 51 for Tambling. (net result gained 1 pick)
2011: Gained 26 for pretty much free whilst giving a lower pick for Maric. Gained a pick for Morton but didn't use it. (net result gained 1 pick but didn't use it plus a pick upgrade)

Pick 44 in 2009 was Matt Dea - so good deal for mine.
2010 - End of first Round Compensation pick & Draft pick #47 for Tambling - good deal.
2011 - Gained Maric + GCS traded with us pick 26 (Elton), Plus traded pick 14 with GWS for Morris and pick 15 Ellis.

Well I did concede the last year was ok, not sure if picks outside the top fifty (either traded or received) were exactly what I was talking about (my fault I should have been more specific). That said, most of the additional picks from memory were from players that wanted out. We have never been the most proactive club about gaining picks. Our 26 from last year was gifted to us at the last moment. I'd still argue that the mentality is more about giving them away than getting them, so I approach the trade period with nervousness.

Well I certainly thought last year was ok. Perhaps you are right the wounds of Wallet run deeper than I am willing to acknowledge. I guess the question ultimately is what by definition is a high pick. I think in a good draft and at last some decent player development a pick at the 30 mark is very valuable. Wouldn't want to give one away unless it was something ridiculously good. Still who knows, maybe we'll pick up a free agent or two again, get an additional top thirty or an upgrade and slay them. We can only hope.
