MATCH REPORT
by Angie

THE DRAW

Disappointed not to win… but happy not to lose…

In the week leading up to the match, the media criticism of St Kilda’s game plan in round 1 was ferocious – surely they would come out firing on Friday night and rain their fury down on the poor young tigers. Watching the teams run onto the ground, it looked like another David v Goliath effort would be required – the Saints looked HUGE!

The Saints started strong and Milne was typically annoying early. The loss of J Riewoldt in the 1st quarter was a blow but it didn’t have the devastating effect that was expected. Martin, King, Vickery & Lids led the Tigers to the front at half time – very entertaining footy.

Expected the thumping to begin in the second half, but the Tigers held their nerve and continued strongly. A couple of baffling umpiring decisions in the third quarter provided some setbacks right as the Tigers looked threatening up forward and some chances were missed… still not quite able to close an opposition out. The fourth quarter was tense with both teams looking on the ropes. After the Saints hit the front late in the quarter as a result of more questionable umpiring, the Tigers threatened up forward until Jackson finally goaled. Incredibly, the quarter just kept on going and the Saints missed 2 more to get the final score level.

Great game (for me) from Lids, Martin, Grigg, Cotchin and King in an encouraging team performance that was a genuinely entertaining match to watch.

EDITORIAL

by Panthera tigris FC

In the voting this week it was no surprise to see Deledio dominate after shutting out one of the most dominant players in the league. With a whopping 85 PREnders voting this week Lids was able reap the rewards and has moved into outright lead. The other notable player was Grigg, whose 4 quarter effort and good use of the ball was rewarded by the voters. Martin's, Newman's, Jackson's and Cotchin's contributions also saw them featuring predominantly on the ballots.

I look forward to a great first home game on Saturday night as the Tigers take on the Hawks. With a pretty inexperienced backline against the potency of Buddy and Roughy it will be interesting to see if the Cubs can continue their promising start to the season.

Carn' the Tiges!

King tried, Helbig although faded, went in very hard for the ball, senior players could look at that. a shame he faded after the first half.

Absolutely terrible Morton.
