I am sure you were all concerned by the lack of report for the round 17 match against Pies. However, real life occasionally intrudes on the land of PRE, so better late than never. ;D

To be honest the match doesn't deserve much of a report, nor did many players deserve much in the way of votes and this was clearly communicated by the PREnders as only 36 ballots were cast for the 82 point drubbing dished out on the Saturday afternoon match. The AFL's website stated it pretty accurately with the headline, "Pies thrash Tigers". A 'to the point', if not overly imaginative summary of the match. It was clear from early on that it wasn't going to be the Tiger's day as after a short tussle early on the Pies broke through to kick a number of goals and never looked back. A Richmond midfield lacking Jackson, Cotchin and Foley were always going to struggle against the likes of Swan and Didak et al., but it was the lack of any real fight that was most frustrating on the day. The Tigers were completely outclassed and occasionally made to look downright silly as the Pies cut the midfield to ribbons and ran circles around the defence. Although the game was 1st vs 15th it would have been nice to see a contest. I am not a fan of sitting next to my Collingwood supporting family members who express sympathy for the plight of the Tigers and "can see the makings of a good side in time". :vomit

Although voter turn out was at a record low this week, especially considering there were 67,000 fans at the match, Mitch Morton was the clear favourite in his return to the senior side. Mitch played a solid, if not spectacular match. High praise considering the performance of some of his teammates. He moved well, was very reliable in his contested marking and generally used the ball well. It seems clear that Dimma wants Mitch to go through the midfield rotations and with his obvious skill it easy to understand why. Saturday's match was the first real time that it appeared as if Mitch might be able to make that transition and hopefully we see him play out the season in that role. Dave Astbury also featured in the voting this week after playing a very solid role in a mostly porous defence. He read the incoming ball well and disposed of it well. He claims that he sees a future for himself as a defender after being drafted as a forward prospect and with his composure and skills he would be a welcome addition to the Tiger backline. Cousins also accumulated votes this week as he continues his late season resurgence. He has been accumulating a lot of possession in the last couple of weeks in an under strength midfield and it is frightening to think of just how much worse the loss could have been if we didn't have someone with Cuz's experience in the guts. Whether he gets another contract or not is not an easy question, however he is doing his part to maximise his chances.

Later today the Tigers take on the Crows at the 'G. After a competitive effort against Adelaide for three quarters in their last encounter, before being comprehensively smashed in the final quarter, it will be interesting to see how far the Richmond side has come. The return of players like Jackson, Moore and White will improve the team structure under Dimma's gameplan and should hopefully see the Tigers get back to their winning ways. The weather man is forecasting showers, hail and thunder. Windy and 12C. Time to rug up and head to the 'G!

Carn' the Tiges!
