Proven himself?Right place at the right time or more to the point lack of alternate,s within the Swans list.Brings nothing to the table IMO

It probably says more about the unique needs of that particular position, 2nd/3rd tall defender.

Other such greats as Mario Bortolotto, "Chooka" Howell & Michael Aitken have been specifically sought to fill that positions needs.

Why?

LRT is a tall defender who has proven himself in a premiership win. He did have a major injury in 2007 but has recovered to return to near best in a very serviceable 2008.

Its notable that Roos does not try to use LRT as a central defender any more. In their premiership year he was the CHB.

LRT -

seviceable is the apt word for him.

I reckon he cops it from critics just because he looks clumsy - he cops a little bit of unfair criticism - hes there in the swans side still int heir best 22 IMO - awaiting for someone to replace him.

Wow!

Hasn't played in 2 years.

But then again, neither has Cousins.

This from the AFL webiste:

'Hentschel, who hasn't played since wrecking his knee in round 21, 2006, worked tirelessly to earn his SANFL recall last season and was on the verge of an AFL comeback before a series of hamstring strains thwarted his efforts.

But the popular 25-year-old has since discarded the knee brace that once guarded his severely damaged knee and is running freely with his teammates. Hentschel has showed no signs of soft tissue strains and has his sights on a round one berth. "

He is only 25 and still has a lot to offer. Like I said risk reward. At the end of the year it could look like a masterstroke.

Bret Thornton from Carlton.

Isn't it amazing how we can rely on players from hated enemies to still be around near the end?

Even more surprising, how some of these players are thought of as duds perhaps.........., until we need then :-[

Which is why, although asked to join this, Claw didn't participate :-X

So true.

I've been looking at the teams on the other thread and I reckon they are generally very even. No-one has more than a couple of elite players and most of the teams are comprised of solid footballers across every line.

It'll be tough separating them.

agree, i took him because he is an automtic slection in the best defence in the afl. better defensively than thorton

I agree with Kurtyzy on LRT.

As far as Clarke, he would have gone much earlier, if it was the end of the 07 season. Amazing how one season can change perceptions.

Really though, there is no excuse for picking Carlton scum, there are plenty of players to choose from. ;D

Bugger, bugger!!

My contingency, if Clarke was taken.

Clarke, Thornton & LRT gone. Back to the drawing board.

Just a warning to anyone who is thinking of sending me picks who can't be on between 6pm - 9pm. I can't either.

I'll be gone from about 6 - 10.30/11.30pm at least. Got a BBQ gathering with some mates to go to tonight so will be thinking of you all fretting over bench players while I am living it up. ;D

If I have any picks that might hold things up I will onsend them if I can find someone on in that time.

Don 't you mean acquatences ( spelling) - :hihi

Have the night off mate - we've had it the last few weeks whilst you've prowled around on here. ;D

Guys, I'm going to be away for eight days after tomorrow and won't be online much at all during this period.

It looks as though there will still be at least five rounds to go by the time I leave so I will have to pm an extended list to someone tomorrow. Who wants to be the lucky recipient?

This exercise is getting dirtier by the minute.

I'll be back to normal from tomorrow, I'm fortunate while on holdiays I am just spending a lot of time working out and getting my fitness back so barely being able to move the remainder of days means I am stuck working on research/writing projects so can keep this going in the background.

I thought it was getting cleaner with picks finally from Melbourne's bones and not Colliwobbles or Carlscum.
All a matter of perception I guess.

Thanks mate.

Very wise u2, your spot on in general mate, I know where you are coming from. Though in this case they are true mates. I ditched the Mr Popularity tag years ago and just spend quality time with quality people.

No one else will tolerate me! Imagine! >:D

Though i do spend some of that quality time with TigerBob AKA Bobby Brown...but there are exceptions to ever rule...if only Pharace would accept me! :stir
