"2009 Official PRE Draft thread'

You had me worried. So I went back for another look.

Garry Ablett No 1, but it could be Garry Snr?

No. Definately 2008 list, but I was wrong. Hudghton was 23 not 20

So many temptations...

I can't go past the last of the decent rucks, and what a ruck he is, I have been gambling every round he will fall but he won't go any further now, must take one of the Top 4 rucks of the league for the last couple of years and one of the better ones when rested forward now.

Darren Jolly, Sydney.

You rat.

U2 takes:

Harry Taylor - Geelong

Rather him than Hudghton that's for sure (that was U2's comment)!

Hurry up you gumby - I'm on the phone to U2 and he's locked and loaded for his next pick!

So hurry up Pharlady, stop boasting to U2 about what dress you are wearing this Saturday night and keep things moving Ms 2 hour Boom Boom.

Oh....FINALLY...well done.

Gee, that was anti-climatic. No more gossiping girls!

Anti-climatic! A player who edged out Max Rooke, Josh Hunt and Darleen Milburn in just his second year! And you take a guy who couldn't get a game ahead of White at Melbourne, so he runs off crying to Sydney and playes second fiddle to a Ball and then when he does get a go at Sydney, they jump all over getting an aging, tiring Mr Pictures Everitt and relegate Not So Jolly to 2nd ruck - huh!

David Hille wakes up on game morning salivating at the thought of playing on Not So!

LMAO! Is this the same David Hille who got 364 taps to my ruck (a man you call 2nd ruck)...who got 543 taps this year. Only out tapped by Cox and Sandilands.

You're living up to my nickname for you Phargone. Stick to your dress making. ;D

Taylor is a great talent and will be a future gun, I assume u2 picked him on need though, because there is so much talent in front of him still.

Mr Van Ber Lo :rofl

Another quality kid, who will be a future gun but is miles behind a lot of talent still available when you took him. You must be basing your strategy off Mike Sheehans Top 50 kids are you? :hihi

Well gee...

Egan goes down.

Taylor is a highly touted draft pick and about 4cm taller than all of those guys.

Rooke & Hunt don't play on talls, Milburn is versatile enough (and another highly underrated player) to play elsewhere for the good of the team. Taylor could be a future gun KP, Milburn is 9 years older. Pretty simple really mate. ;) He was not edged out either, they played 21 and 22 games respectively.

Taylor was recruited due to Egan's chronic injury.

Keep trying though mate. ;)

Bugger again!! That chb cost me.

I don't know if I'm more upset about the ruckman or that I can't find my memory stick.

I'd be more worried about your ruckman...

Unless you're a deviant. ;D

It takes two posts to try get a coherant response from you these days.

On Hille v NotSo

Jolly played 22 games cos they just couldn't get Mr Picture on the park. Whereas Hille played 20 games. Average up Hilles efforts and I conceed taps 400 to 490. But look at the players beyond merely taps, and even without averging up for equal games:

K H M T G P
Hille 177 147 103 34 19 18
Jolly 150 103 100 43 14 11

Jolly rated 94th in the League, Hille 74th.

I don;t have to justify the Taylor pick - he was U2's but a decent one and hardly an anti-climax (but i can't comment on what might rate as an anti-climax in your life to understand what this might actually mean to you - but selecting Cousins gives me a clue  )

On van Berlo, you obviously haven't noticed him - contemplating your navel again?
Firstly, how's about you cut me the slightest bit of slack for having given up Dane Swan in contentious circumstances to suddenly have to choose an alternative. I thought I was in clover with Dane having slipped to 40 something. Still not a bad alternative with a brilliant future:

K H M T HO G B
van Berlo 225 245 108 82 13 8 12
Kirk 235 260 68 138 3 9 12
Hayes 224 275 82 128 3 10 10

These two guys were taken before him. Nathan has a breakout year in 2008 - you must have just missed it ;)

I just like giving you something to do around midnight Pharace. :rofl

Hille, Taylor & Van Berlo are excellent prospects.

It was almost as fun winding you up as it was watching how long it took you to put that post together. ;D

Ah the trials of dial-up in Brisbane - it will be good to be home with Broadband!

An it's not being wound up here in Qld - we have only just gone 11pm, in 1999 :hihi

LOL, you've got me thinking though mate.

They are a fantastic comparison. 6mths between them. I think Hille has more talent but Jolly is more reliable. Remember the last is the first season Hille really put together. Before this last season, Jolly won 41% of ruck contests, however only 21% went to advantage. Whereas Hille won 34% and 24% went to advantage.

Here's the kicker though, and the reason I picked him. I just needed a tap ruckman...if he wins the contest more often than most rucks (5th most last year, 3rd most this year)...he has the lowest amount (22%) of the Top 10 hitout winners, that go to his opposition. Exactly what I need for my midfield of Bartel, Cousins, Cornes when spending time in there and more to come.

If I had to pick between the two it would be a hard choice, take the better looking player now who has been least consistent with only 6mths between them or take the workhorse who has been reliable and always been a better tap ruckman. We all want great around the ground rucks like Cox and Hille, but I'll take a A grade tap ruckman cheap anyday of the week. ;D

Taps aren't everything, but if your winning taps and have the best record for keeping it from opposition, your opponent is not getting first use. The fact I got mine a lot cheaper than you did yours and he fills the strategic role I need him too (nullify the other ruck's taps more often than not), I'm happy. ;D

Dr Stephen Covey could make a whole new Cd outa that post:

"7 Habits of Highly Wishful Thinkers"

Actually I'm an unashamed fan of NotSo in the Dream Team comps - you get him cheap early cos he runs outa puff late in the previous season (wasn't Jolly tapping to Davis in the granny, it was Ball who rucked most of the game). Has a good early to mid-season, then starts the cycle again. Just remember to upgrade NotSo around Round 16-18 for a quality ruckman like Cox or Hille ;)

In any event, Sydney have done well with NotSo for the money.
