Tiges v Dees at Punt rd Rd 2

Looks like they'll allow Daisy Pearce to do what she wants. Gets a free in the forward 50 (correctly), instead of making her go back to where the free happened, they let her just get up and kick probably 5m further infield than where she would have been. They score and get back to a 22 point lead. At 16 we probably stood a chance at 3 quarter time. At 22 probably too much for us to do.
Exactly. These umps barely know the rules.

It’s hard to barrack against Daisy tho. So much respect for what she brings to the AFL. I just have this feeling that the RFC is as serious with the AFLW as we are with the men. We want a premiership

Umpiring is awful.

2 soft 50m penalties to the Dees.

Brennan gets slammed into the ground and tackler falls straight into her back directly in front of the ump, play on............
That was extremely ordinary. Taylah Harris is doing a good Dangerflog impersonation by being a sniper, too.

You've got to wonder if MonCon and Stack broke up because Stack couldn't deal with not being the best footballer of the couple.

Good effort against a class side. Seymour was very good rucking all game but gave away too much height. Knock on was that we struggled with clearances. We chased a lot of the game but never gave up. Conti, Lavey, Brennan, Seymour probably our best. Definitely need Kelly and McKenzie back.

Umpiring was pathetic. The inconsistency in both men’s and women’s is a major problem for the game.

Apart from the 2nd qtr which was deplorable, i thought the girls did quite well.

Foot skills let them down, dees hitting targets at will. And I Thought the Dees spread a lot better than our girls.

Still, a 16 point loss to a premiership contender shows we are on the right track.

Poppy and MacKenzie had they played tonight we would've given them a run for their money.

But that's a myth. There is no inconsistency when it comes to the umpiring and RFC. It looks as if no difference for women. By far to the negative for the last 5 years of all clubs.

Amazed that people still seem surprised, just noticing.

Outclassed, but outclassed by the premiership favourites, and we are so much closer to the good teams now. I have said a few times that catching up to the best teams is going to be very hard given how quickly the women's game is developing. We have to improve at a much faster rate than the teams already at the top. But it is clear that this Richmond team have made up substantial ground.

The game plan looks so much better this year. It works but the execution still needs some work. That's fine, it takes time and experience in real games to get it right. We should be able to dispatch the lesser teams and with some improvement we can be close to the best teams. Much to look forward to with our women's team.

The umpiring was woeful, but hey, it's the AFL, I expect woeful. I was talking to my daughter and her boyfriend just as the ball was in that classic situation of 2 players running for the ball. The Richmond player goes to grab the ball, all the while the Melbourne player has been grabbing at her (holding the woman - not a rule for either sex it seems) and as the Richmond player gets the ball she is already being tackled and gets pinged for holding the ball. There is something seriously wrong when the rules discourage a player from trying to take possession of the ball.

Next week we apparently play Freo at Punt Rd, last I looked we were playing Gold Coast up in the tropics (or maybe the game has been shifted because we already are in the tropics in Melbourne). Is this a late change? I haven't seen an email about tickets and I'm an AFLW member.

I think its been Freo the whole time. We checked the fixture last week after the Saints game and saw we had 2 home games in a row.

Hmm, I thought it was GC, maybe I read it wrong, anyway, I presume I'll get an email early this week to get tickets.

Must say, geez it was warm tonight, the players from both sides played out the game well considering the conditions. I was wondering when they would start to just slow down to a halt but neither side did. Very difficult conditions for a winter game.

Just checked, Round 4 is Gold Coast at Metricon on 28th Jan.

Got to enjoy watching the game live near the gate 3 entrance.

There were some great passages of play by both teams. And our defender got absolutely crunched going back into a pack.

Felt Melbourne got the rub of the green with the umpire but were still the better team on the day. In the second quarter they just had way to much space when it came out of our forward line - maybe our game plan and the heat / humidity got us here as @DavidSSS predicted.

It was a sweatfest just standing so imagine it was super rough playing. Maybe we should have just parked the bus until the temp dropped a bit.

Definitely feels we are on the right track. Injuries to any of our best though and we are going to struggle so fingers crossed we stay healthy.

Last weeks game against the Saints was a good hit out but you needed to temper the expectations as the Saints aren't much. This game against a 2021 Top 4 finisher was always going to be a good indicator of how far we've come.

Finals here we come.

Yes, the way we walked through StKilda was indicative of how much better we now are, but going up against a genuinely good team showed we have improved a lot but still a bit off the top. If we could make finals it would be great.
