PRE 2022 Phantom Draft

I propose a game, associated with the above, all phantom club recruiters invited but anyone can have a crack. Your favourite, highest rated, top 5 players. Not the players you think will go top 5, the players you would draft 1-5 if you had the first 5 picks. Will be part of the above for posterity. Have a think on it and decide and we'll post tonight or tomorrow.

Actually this won't be that interesting, everyone, including me, will post variations on 8-10 players.

1 Cadman, 2 Ashcroft, 3 Hewitt, 4 Sheezel, 5 Humphrey.

would have liked to fit McKenzie in. But unfortunately for me on this particular occasion, I couldn't.

Also, to make it more interesting. Most likely 3 busts.

1. Tsatas. I just don't see it. Competent, just OK at the things he should be very good at for the level of hype. And kicking lacks penetration.
2. Ginbey. as above. Substance just doesn't match they hype. Moves well and is a great size, unconvinced on his footy. I'd hazard a guess he has an excellent manager.
3. Edward Allan. as above but more so, great athlete. But is he a footy player? Based on what I've seen, its a hard don't know, soft no.

Tsatas and Ginbey might be OK players, but will disappoint as first rounders. Allan won't make it
1. Cadman
2. Wardlaw
3. Sheezel
4. Jefferson
5. Hewett

Busts:
Szybkowski
Fletcher
Weddle

Solid top 5, would be happy with any of those players. Interesting you have Szybkowski in the busts, limited ceiling but I think on par with Connor McDonald, probably has a similar impact.

Now that the Draft is over here is the final rundown of how my picks went over the last 2 nights

Brisbane
Will Ashcroft Picked Here at 2 Selected at 2
Jaspa Fletcher Picked Here at 15 Selected at 12

Collingwood

Josh Weddle Picked Here at 27 Selected at 18
Coby Burgiel Picked Here at 29 Selected at 29

I don't think I'm the next Matthew Clarke.

7 - Phillipou - actual pick 10
26 - Sybkowski - undrafted
40 - Teal - undrafted
48 - Magor - undrafted
50 - Dowling - actual pick 43
63 - Van Es - actual pick 31

The last 2 saved me, but those 3 in the middle aren't great. Hopefully they will get a shot in the RD this arvo.

I'd be a better recruiter than Caruso, no doubt.

I dunno that I would have matched Rowston at 16. I remember when we did this I was prepared to from 33 onwards.
Despite all their early picks, Ben Waterworth - one of the few prepared to give actual ratings - gave them a C.

About right I reckon.

Essendon :

5 - Elijah Tsatas (5)
22 - Alwyn Davey Jnr (45)
47 - Jayden Davey (54)
60 - Noah Long (58)
66 - Jed Adams (38)
69 - Jovan Petric (Undrafted)

Not too bad. I missed on Petric and the bid for Davey came a lot later than I thought.

SYDNEY
16- Henry Hustwaite- Pick 37
19- Lewis Hayes- Pick 25
41- Ethan Phillips- N/A
71- Kaelen Bradtke- N/A

Not the best effort, though hard to know whether thats my fault, or the professional recruiters.
Bradtke was always a throw away pick.
Phillips should get a chance, either as an SSP, or in the next mid season draft if he can continue his form.

pretty fair to say that its all the recruiters fault. Especially those at the other 17 clubs
