There is no reason good enough for Richmond to not keep Blair Hartley, with 107 million turnover, match it ,he is vital.
why is he vital? he's responsible for the list we have now. why are we so desperate to keep him, our list is *smile*, and you're desperate to keep the man who created it? just confused thats all.

id be throwing the kitchen sink at geelongs or sydneys list managers, they know how to stay extermely competitive and keep bringing in quality kids and trades

Too simplistic.

We picked players, which may not succeed at other clubs. It worked for our unique game style. But when the rules changed, we were caught out. Chaos ball didn't need precise ball movement. It needed speed, endurance and mental toughness to just keep running - Castagna the classic example.

It's going to take a while to turn over the poor kicks and replace with Tom Brown style laser cannons. You can't pivot a list with ageing talent and average skills without taking a hit in the W-L column.

You're not giving enough credit to the A graders that defined the dynasty and would have stood up regardless of the rules of the days.

You mean the A graders who were still there after the rule changes and didn't bring us to another flag following the rule changes? and who didn't get us any flags until we changed our game style? The flags couldn't have happened without them, but they shined because we had the right plan & people around them to make them shine

Any good organisation plans for transition.
A very good/great ceo or list manager or football manager are still human.
An organisation can’t just take good/great operators for granted, that they’ll just stay there until their time is up. Either resigning or getting sacked.
Good people will get poached, great operators look for more challenges to develop new skills. Death and illness can come into effect at any time.

People and personnel are replaceable. Finding the right fit and the good, decent ones is the challenge.
Sometimes the great ones get stale , sometimes they want a change of scenery. An organisation should plan for this.

Procedures and methods should be in place where the organisation remains strong when challenged. If it isn’t or doesn’t, those people in positions of power or decision making have been either complacent or inept.

Would he really put himself in a position of being beholden to the AFL in the Tassie venture. Especially when they totally screwed with him in the race for the AFL CEO position.

It's Blair Hartley who has been head list manager way before our flags ,the list manager is and was Clarke ,Francis Jackson's boss.
Geelong has a inexperienced list boss in former player Clarke, Stephen Wells is head of drafted player's and would never move(ps know him personally).
 
On top of that we’ve bottomed out again at a time where a new club is coming in.
We're actually bottomed out before the new club comes in. If we do it right , especially this year with a raft of points picks we can trade for premium to F/S or Academy clubs and perhaps again next year. We can grab a premium amount of quality youngsters to establish a new core with and then leave other clubs to deal with the Taswegian compromise. Whatever kids we pick up this draft and next will still take two, three or four development seasons before they're ready to get up n running regardless.

Has any club been picked apart like ours? Almost every off field personnel of any importance has or will be poached.

All our recent success now feels very short lived and it seems we have to start again without those largely responsible for getting us there in the first place.

And they just keep coming for them.

On top of that we’ve bottomed out again at a time where a new club is coming in.

It’s all just fallen apart 😢
Tassie won't get what GC & GWS got
1000 picks.
They will have 3 drafts where they will get the top 5 and get more picks so they can trade for ready made players.
We were nothing like hawthorn, we had 5 picks (3 under 30) straight after we won the 2017 flag.
It's this draft that has left us in no man's land.
Image Oscar Allen at full forward or Sam Taylor at full back instead of Barry Young.
The Viking in the Ruck or little Brett Daniels in the foward line tackling every thing that moves. The trading of our 1st pick to Geelong as a good will jester after the 2020 GF. Why didn't we know Holmes???
25 draft picks we have had since 17.
I cannot tell you if we have 1 200 gamer in that lot maybe Brown. Ross??
The 5 in 30, is just unlucky, it was a very shallow draft with some average options.
We have enough picks this year to get at least 2 decent kids.

Everyone is acting like succession wouldn't have been a forethought of the club's CEO or Board.

It's an important responsibility of the executive management team and more so the managing board of directors to ensure the future of any venture is at least projected. That'll include succession plans.

A lot of that doesn't neccesarily fall completely on Benny as CEO but if he is half the administrator some you claim he is then he will 100% want to leave the club in good stead and will have put such plans in place.

so just because they implemented the stand rule, our gameplan fell to *smile*?!. Sorry but i dont buy that one little bit. Dimma is implementing exactly the same game plan at gold coast, pies gameplan looks identical, in fact, the whole bloody league look like they're playing the richmond way now. except with better skilled players.

thats the problem, blair and clarke assembled an underskilled football team, theres absolutely nothing wrong with the game plan, only the players trying to execute it.

It fell apart because of stand etc. They were designed to stop us.

It was even discussed on fox footy this week - Jonathan Brown or Buckley (I think) talked about the Swans game at the MCG where they used the stand rule to break us. They had skills to execute it. Dimma has those at Gold Coast.
We rebuilt with late picks and rookies during the GWS and GCS expansion. We took what we could find to make a dynasty. It worked. But the rule changes rogered us exactly the way Steve Hocking wanted.
