World according to Bush

I reckon Govt is the soft target. Where was that info coming from? CIA? Military Intelligence? Trigger happy Joint Chiefs? I think Bush, Blair and Howard need to be held accountable for their political failings, but so to do the people who were pushing them to that conclusion. The nameless, faceless military/intelligence power brokers who aren't elected and don't lose their jobs when governments change.

IN Harry's opening post about the doco he was suggesting the pollies either ignored or initiated the action before receiving the intelligence.

the also asked for certain intell, and for intell and analysis to be skewed in certain ways and emphasise certain aspects. In other words they asked for intell to be spun in ways that favoured the outcome they wanted. That has been pretty much accepted as fact.

Yup Bush did for sure. I was staggered at the time when Bush referenced Iraq after 9/11. It was blatant and yet seemed to be glanced over by the media. He should have been lampooned even worse than normal for that. I was just as staggered when Blair repeated Bush's lie about Nigeria. I was of course disgusted when Howard fell over himself to line up with these bloodthirsty morons, putting Australians in the cross-hairs of Islamic terrorists and feeding the, rightly, marginalised racist nuts that would become "Reclaim Australia" et al.

I am not a conspiracy nut (though I did spend way too much time on the 9/11 thread, I was debunking the fruity stuff) I am just suspicious of the quiet war machines of the major powers and in particular the U.S. Sure the Govt can pull the reigns. I just don't like so much information and so much protection of information where people (completely unelected people) inside those war machines have carte blanche by dint of their anonymity and the phenomenal amounts of money at their disposal. They can be "briefing" and "backgrounding" politicians to speak on their behalf. The power rush of having a highly ranked and powerful military advisor would be hard to resist I imagine. I am not absolving the pollies. But I can imagine that though it looked like they were leading the push, there could have been people "egging the pudding" in the background.

Best PRE off-season EVER.

Yeah, real sad that Disco08 took his plane and left. If you're reading Disco08, come back.

Never nice to lose a good contributor. I harbour hopes he still watches us from afar. What a thread though? ;D

John Stewart trying to make sense of Christopher Hitchens' support of Bush's agenda at the time.

I've heard a little about this recently. I might try and watch the doco. It will be interesting to see if anyone is ever held accountable for anything.
