Why the bottom-out strategy is a bust... and not the good kind of bust

This is also still possible.

We can even drop one!

west coast?

the thing is, yeah we can get on a roll, but it means surfing a peak for the next 3 months and trying to keep our feet in September.

our best is good enough, but we really *smile* up the first 2 months of this year.

I suspect a collective overconfidence might have got hold of us and we've corrected it a fortnight too late

I think supporters reflect their team, and I know I was *smile* over confident

I reckon it was more to do with the collective of Lynch, Nank (&Soldo) and Broad sitting in the stands. alongside Tarrant and Gibcus.

If nank and samo are the choice rucks which you’d expect then I can see soldo attracting strong interest at trade table

He's 27. Not sure of his contract situation, but I would guess he'd be out of contract this year. Reckon we'll lose him for nothing.

The biggest issue I see is staying competitive but not really good enough to win the flag. Yes, it is nice making finals, but you want to be contending. I reckon we can get back to being in the mix within a couple of years.

Before the season started, i thought we were in it for the flag in 2023.

After the dogs loss, i thought the flag was out, but finals are still in.

After the suns loss, i thought the finals were out.

After the Geelong win, i am back to being the in "flag is out, but finals are still in" category.

maybe if we win all 5 games going into the bye, i'll be back into the "we are in it for the flag in 2023" category.

But I do reckon the ultimate target is to be back in a sustainable premiership window within 2-3 years and to be in contention for the reminder of the 2020’s.

It was interesting doing the ladder predictor.

I mean, yeah, it's pretty bloody improbable that a side wins out after round 9. Especially a side with some obvious deficiencies (e.g. tall forwards).

But.

We have had the worst part of our draw. We do get a pretty good run for the next 14 rounds or so.

We won 13 in a row in 2019. We don't even have to do that. 10 of the next 11 will do!

This season has some similarities to 2017 and 2019 in terms of looking in big doo-doos early and then climbing out of it. Hence why astute Darksiders calling for rebuilds every time it happens strikes me as hilarious.

This year is gonna be tough, and we don't have the same lifetime champions at their peak, but bottom-out? Go and GF.

Yep, same Ian.

Soldo contracted for this year and next. He is UFA end of 2024.
The time is ripe to float his name to trade. Not sure of his trade value though.

@AngryAnt this year is especially important that we make finals so that we dont hand GWS a top ten pick :ROFLMAO:

I dunno. Good chance we can look at recruiting whoever they pick in a few years time. Might be a long term strategy of ours.,

2017 started well with 5 wins and the only real worrying injury was Griffens (and that became a blessing in disguise), we had a wobbly period in the middle, but recovered well from that. With a career ending injury to Rance in Rd 1 and then a whole bunch of others 2019 did shape to be a nightmare, but troops came back in the 2nd half of the season and we stormed home.
