Dependable defender Mark Chaffey and promising young forward Kayne Pettifer are set to return to the Richmond side for next Sunday's big Round 2 clash with the Western Bulldogs at Telstra Dome.
Chaffey and Pettifer missed the Tigers' opening round loss to Collingwood at the MCG last Friday night due to suspension. Both played for the Coburg Tigers in a practice match against Williamstown last Saturday.
"Obviously Chaffey would be pretty much a certainty to be selected," said Richmond's Football Manager Greg Hutchison.
"Kayne Pettifer's form pre-season had been pretty good and while he wasn't great in the VFL last weekend, he'll still put himself into serious consideration."
Chaffey, 25, has played 102 games for Richmond since joining the Club from Caulfield Grammar in 1997. He has developed into one of the Tigers' most consistent performers over the past three years, providing the team with good run and creativity out of the backline and through the midfield.
Pettifer, 21, has played 17 games with the Yellow and Blacks since making his senior debut in 2001 and kicked 15 goals.
He is highly regarded by the Tiger hierarchy as a youngster capable of being a reliable goalkicker for the side, and easing the burden on star forward Matthew Richardson.
Meanwhile, Richmond's two pick-ups from rival league clubs in last year's AFL National Draft - Tim Fleming (Carlton) and Billy Nicholls (Hawthorn) - appear likely to line up for the Coburg Tigers in this Saturday's VFL season-opener against Werribee at Proton Oval.
Fleming, who was taken at selection No. 41 in the Draft, has recovered from a broken wrist sustained in the pre-season and is extremely keen to press his senior claims in the coming weeks.
Nicholls, who was Richmond's third pick (No. 47 overall) in the Draft, resumed with the Coburg Tigers last Saturday following an interrupted pre-season because of injury and was impressive.
"Billy played pretty well in the first three quarters of the Coburg game on the weekend, but unfortunately got a bit of a 'corky' as well," Hutchison said.
"He should be right to play this week, but whether or not he's considered for senior selection, I'm not sure."
