Who can stop Goodes?

While I was stating around I found this ....Head to head
More marks ,twice as many hit outs and more goals to Otto.

Interesting Stats. But it's not important how many stats you get, it's what you do with it that counts. Goodes very rarely over turns the ball.
I rather see Ottens be given more freedom and let Hall do the close checking.

Close checking? ..havent you noticed that Goodes is a mountain that is getting bigger?
He will pick Razor up and shake him around and toss him aside.

Can't say I agree with you there. I think Hall is capable of holding his ground. I just don't think Ottens knows how to play close. We'll get more out of Ottens if he plays his nature game.

I think Otto will go head to head with Goodes. Hall will be minding Ball in the forward line. The frightening fact is that Gas will take Hall - he always does. The only good thing is that Zantuck will probably come in as the back up for Hall. I think Otto can match it with Goodes. Hall can actually give us some attacking run from defence if he plays on Ball because Ball is even slower than Weller.

Gaspar will not take Hall — whoever takes Hall must be quick in the first 5 metres, so it will probably be Zantuck.

Goodes is a different proposition. Like most teams, we don't have anyone to match him, so the question is not who to stop Goodes but how? We need to exploit his tendency to push forward by using his man on the way out of defence - quickly. May also need to drop a tall back to fill CHB, both to force Barry Hall wide and pick up Goodes as he comes forward.

Zantuck may well take Hall right from the start, but the other defenders back there (along with the ruckman dropping back) will all need to do their bit to block Hall off.

That's if Zantuck is picked to play this week. Zantuck in, *smile* out.

do we need to seriously worry about jason Ball? thats going a little far i think. Zannas may not even play, and if he does why would we put him back in the backline where he has been towled up this year. he just kicked 6 goals in the 2nds - wouldnt we try and play him forward if we pick him. Need to stop Goodes with Razor, B Hall with Gas/Weller/AK, and maybe Williams with Newman, but thats it, the rest will take care of itself. And note about Ottens tap outs - either our midfield is dumb or Ottens seems to be tapping to the oppo more than us. The Saints and Cats games were amazing - we won all the taps, yet no clearances? The oppo was roving Ottens better than we were.

Gaspar should start on Hall. Coburg aren't playing this week, so we can't drop him for a 'run'. And don't start him on the bloody bench again
If the Swans midfield gets on top, it won't matter who is on him, or Goodes, they will destroy us.
Concentrate on getting the footy first, Tiges.

We just have to run run run chase and man up for this one cause they beat us with speed last year.
Saddington killed us last year.

The Sydney game plan is pretty simple. Yes, they run & try to get out on their own. It will be basic man on man footy to knock them over. They like to go short, so simply man up & force the turnover!!!

LMAO. No definitely not 90 champ. I know it is a bit of wishful thinking to hope that our blokes could run their arses off & apply some pressure, but one can only hope. They play a possession game similar to Port & you just have to man up & bring the ball to ground. But considering our history on the road & with 3 games interstate over the next few weeks..... oh well, here we go again. ::)

with *smile* out of form Goodes and Barry Hall are going to be a big problem for us, specially if the swans midfielders fire on that small ground and deliver the ball down quick like they are known for.

I dunno who i would match up on em, i just hope Danny has a plan A,B,C,D and an E just in case (and I dont mean lawrence angwin by that lol)

You have to start with Razor on Goodes, but just for something else from left field ::) ::) I would think about giving the job to Fiora. He did the job on Burton when given the chance and I reckon he can do the job on Goodes (as long as he doesn't try to out-muscle him).

I say give *smile* a go lol what have we got to lose haha

What have we got to lose? Just the game.
If Richo can fire... Well I think we might pinch it. Does any one knows Richo's stats at the ground?
