Richmonds big problem this week against Sydeny is how to stop Goodes. The only name I can think of is Tivendale. Tiv has the pace to keep with him, but lacks the leap to contest marks. Newman? Again lack of height. Zantuck maybe worth a try.
Does anybody else have an idea?

We have no one that can go with Goodes.
Tivendale would be chewed up and spat out by him, you talk about pace and leap? how about the fact that one big bump from goodes and tivendale will find himself at STAR city.
All you can do is minimise his effectiveness by reading the play and being where he is delivering the ball, and hope and pray big time...

ray hall is the only tall we have who could keep up with goodes.

Would you play Hall in the ruck? Or Ottens as ruck and Hall moves onto Goodes after each ruck contest?
Hall ruck work is okay. Maybe he can play as negative ruckman.

Razor was my first thought as well but we might be robbing the backline unless Gas can play the game out.

ray hall - our only option. will keep up with him around the ground and will contest well down back. Dont do the ruck unless he has too, and basically tag him. He Hallgets a chance he should run off him as well. Hall is a good kick on the run, so some long bombs running through the centre will help our fowards out. He has been one player who has done well this year. Gas or maybe Weller have to try and take Barry Hall.

otto/staff to ruck then move fwd.hall then to take on goodes around the ground.

maybe but who would you play hall on? bazza hall would cream him with strength.
AK would get bazza i would think.
*smile* should go to saddington.
with staff and richo[maybe]coming back perhaps its time to try *smile* in the back half or use him on goodes.

yep, gas, AK, or weller have to take Barry Hall. Here is a thought from very let feild? If Richo plays, why not try him? Mind you, he probably wont keep up with him now because of his extra bulk, but that match up could have worked if Richo was a little lighter? very offenive anyhow. Razor to take him, and test Goodes defensive skills by getting ball himself.

I must have been at some other place because he has been towelled up by every player he has played on apart from last friday night.

We will have to rotate opponents on Goodes as he has an amazing aerobic capacity that Hall cant match for 4 quarters.
Stopping or at least nullifying him will be critical to winning the game.

no, Ray Hall has been ok. Stopped Ben Graham, was good against Collingwood, good last week, and was one of our better players against the crows. Stats are not high, but the stopping job he is doing?

This is our problem. We worry too much about them and not about us. Who will stop Richo or Brown or Otto.....should be the focus. Unfortunately the plan will be have Otto in the Centre bounce and the drop back to the half back line, run *smile* with Goodes around the ground, Brown push back and run the ball from defence, Johnno run with williams and tivva run with Maxfield. Chaff you zone off to defence and Ty, Rory and Kellaway you hold hands across the full back line. Rich you stay in the square and I'll drag you just before half time for poor body language.

Just once lets go out and attack, hold our nerve and try to win a game rather than to try to not lose a game.

you have to stop one or two players. Cant let Goodes run around by himself? Yeah they do have to pick up our good players as well, good point, but none of our Tigers have been in the form Goodes is? Shulz will be too slow for Goodes. Hall can run off him at times, and is a good long kick, so if he gets it near the centre, its in our forward line.........thats offensive play. If Hall doesnt work, i dunno what plan B is? Maybe get Bowden back to do a job, the less he gets it the better.

If we worry about shutting all their players down we will get smashed.

Look at Geelongs performance a few weeks back. For 3 quarters they attacked and held a nice lead going into the last quarter, then they went defensive and got beaten.

Nobody is expecting us to win, so why not go on the offensive and get them worrying about us.

* Put a guy like Tivendale on Goodes and let them go head to head. Give Tiv free reign to run amok.
* Put Nathan Brown in the middle moving forward at every opportunity. Harder to contain when he is always on the move.

Barry Hall could also be a problem for us.
Ray Hall on Goodes, while Ottens and Stafford rotate in the ruck / forward line. Weller or even Morrision can play on Barry Hall.
Plan B for Goodes. I would try a smaller player like tiv.

Why would they be worried about us? We haven’t been setting the world on fire and none of our players are really shinning at the moment (Tiv, Krak and Brown have been the stand outs)
If we can stop Goodes I think we’re half way there in defeating the swans. Goodes is their link man through the center, stop him and we stop a lot of their drive from half back.
I think we can match them in the mid field. But we need to get it out of the center more. This game could be a lot closer then some people think.

You guys have to be kidding about Ray Hall on Goodes, remember Hall on Hird! I'm tipping that is one move that wont happen.

Meh

Ottens matched it with Everritt, who I consider the most in form and damaging ruckman in the league at the moment.Let him go head to head with Goodes.I'm sick of us tagging and worrying about defending.

Obviously Goodes is a superb player,he just won a Brownlow, but some of the Ottens baggers might find this interesting..the 2 most importtant stas for a ruckman

Hitouts Marks
Ottens 170 34

Goodes 66 42

I couldn't find clearance by each player but I suspect Ottens is leading.

We have Stafford and Richo back in,this may sound a little ludicrous but perhaps it'll be them who are concerned about our talls.Anyway, there's nothing to be gained by shutting up shop.Attack,Danny,Attack.If nothing else the supporters and commentators will love you for it.

I am with you all the way on the attack Danny attack evo, but i have a feeling that Danny is not listening to any of his members.
We have been screaming for him to attack it seems forever and evey week its the same old thing.
It has to be the most frustrating period i have ever endured with the tigers, under Danny.
Its like i ask myself who are you trying to appease Danny?
The supporters and all 99.9% of the members are telling you go out and attack and if we get flogged in attacking then we will at least pat you on the back for giving it a shot, you are getting bagges week in week out with the negativity you show, so what is it with you? Are you just trying to tell us I am Danny an i will not be told what to do?

I cant find any logic in your thinking..get out there and let the boys play footy.
