As hard as it will be for most of us to ignore the disgrace we were onfield, you would have to say this has been one of our best years.

Some trying times during the Wallace axing but March steered us through it nicely. Committing to a review window and sticking to it. The media were rampant but that's just because Wallet was feeding them everything.

With the new coach "process" we could easily have fallen over a looked completely silly if we buckled to the time pressures the media tried to put on us or by offers to our candidates by other clubs. Again RFC refused to budge from their plan and stuck through it to the end. The result, a new coach that seems to be exactly what we need at this stage.

Reading the press it was good to see the senior media figures all praising the club for the way they went out and ran this process. Some begrudging admiration I think seeing they were frustrated no end by the lack on leaks.

2 million profit, redevelopment of Punt Road under way, Craigieburn ready for 2010 pre-season, Benny Gale in a smooth move to replace Wright, who will still be around to help us.

I can't think of too much that the RFC admin did wrong this year. I don't think I've been able to say that too many times in the past.

Good call Baloo. I just hope this is a taste of things to come. We need, desperately to get better in all facets. Off to a good start, just need to keep building on it. More quality people, better player facilities, funding for improvement throughout. While its been disastrous on-field, maybe its the catalyst to start getting things in order (not before time).

totally agree, felt like crap all year watching carlton and collingwood improve and seeing us struggle again. but i have felt the club has been ultra professional in its signing of d.h. the tunnel has alot of light in it now. all round good job.. :clap :clap :clap :clap

I concur. Well said Baloo.

You know it has been a very weird year for me. I have always focused heavily on Richmond in my life, but this season, moreso. I have been more involved and to say it has been a turbulent year is an underestimate.

In all of it though I have held on to the belief that off the field, this club was getting it's act together and were definitely moving in the right direction. The ability to go to a few functions and watch the men that matter talk as well as go to nearly every Coburg and Richmond game and be able to attend Club 80 functions gave me that opinion that whilst we were struggling on the field, the men in charge off the field had an uncompromising vision to create success. Talking to them also gave me the impression this was a different Richmond.

Everything they have done has been done professionally and profoundly. For the first time in a very long time, we are a well run Football Club.

Now the appointment of Damien Hardwick was the decision of these competent men in charge of our club. I then have no doubt that he is the right man for us.

Im very happy but will not jump the gun yet...I want to see what support staff, medics, fitness coaches and how much of that profit goes back into the football dept.......then I will judge, IMO were are only half why there for this year

We have made a good start simply by doing things more professionally. But the club now needs to keep doing that as a standard business practice, rather than getting distracted by congratulating itself for some significant small steps.

Agreed but expect to be frustrated on that front for a little while yet.

As long as we can see that Blueprint for success and the club heading in the right direction on the field, frustration will be at a minimal.

hmm claw is one who has stayed away from baloos posts. but claw feels he will have a say on this. in short in the main i think i agree. just one thing that concerns claw. in moving forward im not so sure about how enveloping the review was. list management and recruiting need much work i dont see any wheels in motion. we can keep the media at bay and appoint a coach but if these two areas continue to fail we will fail.

hardwick has seen a rebuild at the hawks which got them a flag after 4 years while we were giong backwards if anyone hardwick is the man that can turn things around.

Why is Claw copying Leysy's "refer to oneself in the third person" schtick?

Claw already has the "no punctuation" schtick. He doesn't need another. This is just selfish.

If we can build a solid structure in the back office, which we are well on the way to doing, then the fiscal rewards from these efforts will translate into more resources for the football department. It is these resources that we have been lacking.

All we really need now is to execute the plans in place, find some onfield success and we will again be able to attract winners to our club.

Finally, the club is being run like a business. A bridge the other 15 clubs seemed to cross many moons ago.

Ah well, better late than never.

Add the rehabilitation of Ben Cousins and Graham Polak and the club has done a lot of things right this year IMO. I believe the strong leadership off-field helped them enormously. Despite negative, baying media we have done a great deal to restore some pride in the club this year.

The rest will follow.
