Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Reckon that's a bit harsh as George was an integral part of those 3 flags - but in a way he was fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time to have got them.

Unforeseen circumstances during 2017 meant that we were forced into playing an unconventional forward line and it just happened that he fitted into it that hastily contrived system beautifully.
And he remained a very useful component of the forward line in the next 2-3 years as well - even though over that time there were changes (e.g. Butler, Townsend out and Lynch in)

But 2021 has seen a very much different style of game played by all teams and maybe it's just George's particular skillset is no longer such a great fit. And not being able to adapt his skillset to a new way of playing is different from footy IQ.

Having said all that - now is the time to give him a spell from the ones. Who knows - he might be able to learn a new way of playing "todays game" - or he might not?
Don’t start me on his skill set.
I was only talking about football I.Q

There’s no doubt we need more defensively minded mids atm with no Shedda or Prestia, however I prefer Graham as a pressure forward then the other 2 atm, I actually like the thought of the combo of Graham, Baker and Cumberland, ads some genuine toughness , skill and x factor
Jack Graham is also pretty deadly on goal too.

That's fair enough. I'm just suggesting his footy IQ (however much there was) was sufficient to play a role in 3 flags. He was able to just go out there and run and chase like a lunatic - and it suited the team game at the time and he earned his medals.

The problem this year is that the game has changed and having him just running around like he used too no longer works.

He still plays like a first gamer.
There has been no progres this year.
What he showed in the 2019 GF should be what all supporters would expect.
You can't be a 3 time premiership player and have episodes like last night.
There were at least 2 goals to be kicked and he panicked and fked up.
What he did last night is what he did in the 2019 GF.

He just buggered up more often then. 0 goals 6 behinds.

I have never never seen a player with such a paucity of foot skills and footy IQ. Which has been career long.

He is a truly awful footballer with great work ethic and an elite sidestep.

He has actually improved his goal kicking. Unfortunately his composure, skills and IQ are terminal.

Time to move on.

Purely and simply does my head in. Fumbles when trying to take the ball at speed. Whenever he takes a mark his first move is to scuttle backwards like a crab as teammates stream past him and others make options that he ultimately can’t see. Is almost a footballer. Almost takes a mark. Almost hits a team mate with a kick. Almost keeps his feet. Almost does something constructive and almost kicks a goal. But misses too many. I know the opposition are in trouble when he actually kicks one. I really don’t like to bag one of our players out but those attempted 2 bananas on the run still have me filthy today. The first was appalling because he burnt teammates in a better position. So…..after doing that….he attempts a second instead of kicking through the ball properly like Chol did for a beauty. Aarts is better value as he is far team oriented.

He also almost won three premiership medals. Oh wait....

The new marking rules reward accurate kicking and hand balling. George has a big problem with both.

George really, really worries me. For some years I've been having a recurring nightmare that he has to kick after the siren from about 30 out on a 45 dgree angle for us to win the Preliminary Final. However, I always wake up just as he kicks the ball....so I never actually know whether he slots it or not. Drives me crazy! Not making this up and hope that it never becomes a reality. In terms of skill execution, he'd have to be pretty close to the most unreliable player on our list.

Little Coburg,
Its just not all about kicking behinds.
What he did in the 2019 GF wont ever be forgotten for me.
The turbo charged break through 3 GWS players off half Back.
The burst into forward 50 and the splitting of GWS defenders that wouldve been the best ever goal in a GF, even better then Martin's goal in 2020.
He has the goods, but he needs to reproduce it. Not once every 6 weeks but every week.
He dosent get a game in the best club side in the last 10 years because he is a dud.
The has it, he needs to find it.

What??
The stand rule
Is the rule George should thrive off.
The rubber legs when he has time, is the issue.
What ever happened to Rudy, the bloke we had at the club in the early 80's.
He needs a good chat with Rudy

The new rules create a corridor into which the player may run and the marker or anyone of the markers team mates, may not.
Great for the player who can use the ball well but I am afraid George's execution skills are pretty limited.

You have to mark the ball in order to have an opponent stand the mark.

Or lay a tackle.

Cantstandya's biggest problem is he is a dumb footballer who usually makes the wrong decision on the odd occasion he does get the pil.

Whenever he takes a mark his first move is to scuttle backwards like a crab as teammates stream past him and others make options that he ultimately can’t see.

The good news then is he doesn't mark often, only once on Friday night. Only 13 in last 5 games.
