Welcome to the Tigers Nathan Broad

Who knows what's been going on with life in the hub... maybe they're giving him a wake up call that no one's indispensable!
Yes as you say, who knows.
Broady replaced Shorty late in 2017, Towner came in even later. Baker and Shai came into the side fairly late last season.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the next months or so, Markov might elevate himself to be a regular selection.

Markov was the loser when Towner stormed into the side at the end of 2017.

Towner came in for the injured Josh Caddy, who had to come back in. Towner was obviously too hot to drop, so Markov made way after the last round of 2017 from memory. But for circumstance, he was playing pretty well but lost the opportunity to be a premiership player. Personally i felt he'd lost his way. Apparently trained the house down pre season 2019 and didn't get close to nailing a spot in the side, but he looked good last week.

Who knows, he may make it after all. He has the physical attributes, i guess time will tell.

Interesting that Rioli missed a week. Graham missed a week. Broad misses a week..

I think we're freshening the list a bit personally. Especially those heavy runners.

If he was being managed they would say managed.

Poster on Twitter made a good point that if you say managed as opposed to omitted they can't come into the team at the last minute if required.
Notably Broady is an emergency.

He's right up there in terms of JDM voting. Definitely not dropped.

Grimes is not naturally a tall but he's spent a lot of time tall this season. Broad is a zoner with, at his best, elite aerial aggression.

Grimes is the best defensive small back in the AFL by a margin. Broad is not as good there. But who is?

Astbury goes down. We have to send one of Broad or Grimes to tall back. We send Grimes. How'd he go? Broad sagging as a running back (Houli is out). How'd he go?

Grimes is one of the best defensive small backs I've ever seem. Broad singularly the most aerially aggressive VFL #3 back. So who plays tall in the defending premier's squad?

It's Grimes. He plays there. This wild notion that clubs are circling Nathan Broad is put about by us.

And now Broad is dropped. We're punting him.

I'm disappointed that we didn't have that on the cards. Grimes promoted to tall. Bungling a little bit. But totally at the level of AFL tall defender in a reigning premier. Broad never at that esteemed place, despite our respect for all that he does.

Back in the VFL days, young Broad was sent to the HBF to play what we recruited him for, running HBF. He was ok but for the whole can't kick thing. And should have been gone.

But stuff happened behind the scenes. He got coached. Everybody faced facts. Broad became the most fearless VFL defensive aerialist I've ever seen. And athletic. He would jump clean over three contestants as a matter of routine. And be smashed and get up.

He was promoted on the back of that endeavour. Early Fly days. And Nathan Broad would not be beaten at AFL level in the air. And he would play smart to get a stoppage.

And then a premiership. Much like 2017 for two years and the another premiership.

Skip to 2020. Grimes was chosen the be the tall. Broad was left to play the role he was recruited for all those years ago. Running back. He was ok, wasn't he?

Broad is not a running back. Oleg keeps his spot. Bachar in. Is it treachery or the meritocracy? Broad out. And, rumour has it, on the market.

Oleg keeps his spot. This is serious, mum.

My thoughts immediately.

Most of the time we tend to jump up and down at omissons without any reasoning or knowledge of why.

This year you can clearly see we are dealing with management differently.

I get the vibe that most players would rather play than rest given its a shorter season with shorter games however If they have any extenuating niggles they might ask for a rest.

Omitted is a strong word but in the end, its just that and no harm done.

All great points Jack. Fair summation.
The blokes in last nights game finished up looking like burst saveloys at a country show.
If logically, Essendon move the ball quickly given the coaching personnel, the game will exact it’s toll. Steamy, sauna soup stuff.
Then we have a short turn around.
Against the Hydra that is the WC forward line, we’re going to need Broady at his zoning, aerial kamikaze best.
All our defenders will have full time positions next week, Broady will have two.
Oleg is going to need the hit up this week, crazy horse needs to cool his jets.

Good to see there is still some good acid around!

1 - 1 game, 4 players - Pickett, Billy James (Ri), Fred Vine (Me), George Rawle (Es)
2 - 17 games, Ernie Taylor (Ri)
3 - 33 games, Albert Lauder (Co)
4 - 83 games, Fred Fontaine (Fi)
5 - 102 games, Frank Adams (Me)
6 - 164 games, Frank Adams (Me)
7 - 426 games, Michael Tuck (Ha)

Thanks heaps. There some amazing numbers. Hows Albert Lauder winning a flag every 11 games at that stage.

Good stats. How’s Broady tracking for winning percentage? He was top of the pops there for a while.

Very unlucky to be dropped.
Could you associate with him being dropped, with the speculation that he might leave at years end?
Same goes with Cj. He wasn't injured early in the year and Hardwick went with Chol instead.
Hardwick is very old school and if he thinks or knows you want out, he won't play you.
Ellis was a club decision to let him leave but with rumours Graham, Broad, Cj and castagna being chased by other clubs will be doing Hardwick's head in.
If Cj gets us Green or Williams, see ya later.
Graham gets us Laird, see ya later.
But Broad & Castagna we need to keep.

Don't think thats strictly correct.

You can't come into the team unless an emergency (or cop a fine), but it would be ludicrous to state "managed" & then name as an emergency

Don't think thats strictly correct.

It doesn't ring true. Why would the AFL seek to control how a player is used? Shouldn't be anything stopping a "managed" player from being named as an emergency if he's the best insurance for his replacement.

Geelong did this frequently through 2011 on their way to the flag, and the player was listed as "rested". The new terminology "managed" is less suggestive to the public that the club is taking liberties or playing funnybuggers.

Pretty clearly it's a social distancing thing. All d'ladies in Darwin wanting their shot at a medal. Broad's arrival in the airport would be a community health issue. The RFC are doing the right thing for the national effort.
