Welcome to the Tigers - Connor Menadue

First person named in our bests yesterday. Breaks the game open with his dash and dare.

Welcome to the seniors Connor Menadue. It's time to end the farce.

You don't say, TBH. So who's making room for him?

A few id suggest, we looked really tired and a few carrying injuries.

Think Conor is a certain starter next week, would also like to see Stengle for George as he didnt look right although played ok.

We have a few that need a break either form or injuries so dont think its a major concern to fit a few in that playing great footy from the 2s, can only be beneficial in all areas..

I know who you want me to say. ;)

There's really a few across the lines that aren't quite working. A lot of calls for Stengle to go forward but he's been quite wasteful at VFL level and coaches have concerns about his running power.

If it's not Stengle in, why not swap some magnets? Butler out and Short to play his role, with Menadue going back to play Short's role.

It won't happen but I'd also like to see Moore in Townsend's role.

St Kilda's an ideal opponent to give our U22s another chance, but I don't expect these changes will happen. Hardwick usually sticks fat with battle-hardened warriors to the detriment of the younger, zippier kids.

So I fully expect Brandon Ellis to come in instead of Menadue or Markov.

Menadue has to be rewarded imo. Markov has had an interrupted season with injury and would like to see him put a couple more good games together.

Despite being unable to resist a little dig, I actually agree with you. I think Butler most deserves a spell because his decision-making has been really poor and wasteful. Some of his play has just been really dumb, refusing to move the ball on when he is clearly comimg under pressure, ignoring team-mates running into better position and trying to take on the world like a kamikaze! It's resulted into CHTB, turnovers or really dumb kicks/HBs. George similar at times, and attempting bender kicks at wrong times (and even JR too) but George was a little better overall, he's harder at it in marking, tackling and pressure. Unless he is sore.

So your idea of moving Short forward to bring Mena in could be a good way to go. Agree with Moore getting another go too, but could also take a small's place. I'm tired of such a predictable forward line where there is only one serious tall marking option - Jack. Guess where we kick it if under pressure, or on a slow play into a congested FL. WCE knew exactly where McGovern should go. Just knew they had to put our mids and backs under real pressure which they were good enough to do.

Dimma has to be brave enough to try some things against lesser opposition. Of course what worked in 2017 is no guarantee to succeed in 2018. I think the game-plan of so many smalls forward and only one ruck was wrecked by WCE yesterday. Those who think they automatically could not repeat it at the G have no certainty, but the evidence was clear to me.

I didn’t get to catch the VFL game or stream on Saturday due to work unfortunately. Missed the curtain raiser against North Melbourne on Mother’s Day due to work too. But against the dogs a fortnight ago, Connor was deadset out on his feet at the 21 minute mark of the second quarter. Too early for a player with his running capacity. His skills didn’t suffer, but his concentration and positioning did. Nevertheless, Fly injected him into the midfield (wing) late and he had an impact and had another good performance in that loss. As you would expect; talent wise he’s looked way above VFL level all year, even with an interrupted preseason.

I’d be curious to hear PREnders thoughts on his energy levels over four quarters in our last two VFL fixtures. A lack of fitness remains the only reason to hold him back. In any case, Connor needs to get a go in the 1s soon.

The game out at Footscray was where Connor nearly got knocked out in the 2nd 1/4.

I've seen very little issue with his energy levels. 23 disposals last game, 20 were effective. Has been very consistent this year. Deserves his chance.

Yep but Grigg will play his 200th and I'll back him to lift. Bring Menadue in for Conca.

He was red hot in Q1 in that game, Taz. Came out of the blocks like an absolute rocket and stood out in a back 6 that boasted both B and C Ellis as the one to watch. But even in Q1 he laboured. Brandon did less but did it on the bit. No shame in that though. Brandon’s tank is so good that he becomes one of the quicker players on the ground by Q4. ;D

It’s a highly speculative process talking about a player’s fitness when you aren’t privy to their medicals. I thought Menadue stood out against the Dogs for AFL class moments like he had almost every other week previous. But I don’t believe volume of AFL class moments or disposals is the KPI the match committee is looking for. He’s been smashing those all year and hasn’t been promoted. If he gets the nod this week that means he’s finally ready to put his best foot forward and is ready to face the step up in grade with a full tank of gas. In any case, Menadue is one of the blokes out of contract we really need to retain. Given his high VFL class form after an interrupted pre season, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the league’s minnows try and pick him off.

One of Pinjarra or Butler might get the chop

Showed a bit last season, and was a bit stiff to be dropped, like to see him given a crack at McIntosh's role.
