@LeeToRainesToRoach - any idea when the last time was that two top four teams went out in straight sets…? Not sure if it would be a common occurrence or not.
Only times two top-four teams lost twice without winning are
2014 Geelong (3rd) & Freo (4th)
1983 North (1st) & Fitzroy (3rd) - final 5
1980 Geelong (1st) & Carlton (2nd) - final 5
@LeeToRainesToRoach - can your stats bank say how many times a team has had more free kicks for than points for?
Is it a common occurrence? Doesn’t seem like it would be.
Hahaha, that is one of the quirkiest questions ever.
Has happened surprisingly often since free kick stats were recorded in 1965 - 165 times, and 7 for Richmond. But this is only the fifth time since 2009
2020 R8 Freo 18F, 16P
2019 R21 N.M. 20F, 14P
2018 R4 Bris 26F, 17P
2016 R19 Rich 24F, 23P
Were any of the 165 by St Kilda? I need some ammo to throw back at a painful Aints supporter.
St.Kilda has 17 mentions, unfortunately none against Richmond and none since 1988.
1968 R10
1972 R14
1975 R21
1977 R12
1978 R8
1979 R4
1979 R19
1979 R20
1980 R15
1981 R15
1983 R3
1985 R2
1985 R19
1986 R9
1987 R6
1988 R6
1988 R12
If it's any consolation, they lost every game.
1979 R4 they had 40 frees, scored 29 and lost by 178 points.
1986 they had 53 frees and lost to Sydney who scored 47 points.
Another one for @LeeToRainesToRoach - do you have a win percentage for each Victorian team when the play interstate? Cheers.
Three sets of numbers
- record in (WA v WC & Freo) + (SA v PA & Adel) + (NSW & ACT v GWS & Syd) + (Qld v Bris & GC)
- record outside Victoria as the away team
- record outside Victoria
Games before 1982 (when South moved to Sydney) excluded

I'd love to see Ron's sisters pass on his database to a worthy successor, or take it up themselves if so inclined. Would it be possible to host his database on here, @Mr T. ? That would be a legacy.
They're only as good as the data feed into it, aren't they? It would need to be constantly updated, ya? Is it a program on a computer? None of us are really computer ppl.I'd love to see Ron's sisters pass on his database to a worthy successor, or take it up themselves if so inclined. I'm not sure there is a worthy successor. Ron created that database by himself, it was a part of who he was.
But from a purely technical perspective, the last time I chatted to him about the tech behind it, it wasn't cloud based and he was running it off his equipment at home. While it wouldn't be technically difficult to migrate a database to the cloud (assuming you had root access), the user frontend would need a fair bit of work. If I remember correctly Ron would just write with SQL statements from a console window.
Quite right about keeping it updated. And sorry for your loss. @Baloo and others are across the technicals of it all. I sure am not. They're only as good as the data feed into it, aren't they? Hosting wouldn’t be an issue. It’s moving it and his sisters agreeing to it. It would need someone close to Ron to make contact.I'd love to see Ron's sisters pass on his database to a worthy successor, or take it up themselves if so inclined.
