U18 National Champs - 2013

Does Bontempelli get enough of the ball?

Not yet but his pace is enough at this stage. Great size. If he has time he will hurt you with the ball. Not so flash in traffic.

Cheers Scoop, he looks pretty smooth. The family resemblance to Nicky Dal in the way he moves is quite strong. Great size.

This won't get a lot of responses but anyone heading to the games this arvo evening?

Is there anyone in particular you are keen to look at?

Nah, going to watch on TV. Freeman is the one I want to see. Was disappointed he didn't play last week. Type of player we need with his pace in the midfield. McCartney I want to see do well as I see him as a handy late pick up.

Hourigan is one I want in the second round of the draft. Reynolds another.

Darcy Cameron in the third.

They'll be the ones that are most interesting to me.

Others are Sokol, Impey, Aliir, Hartung, Taylor.

Sorry Gus, I have been flat stick. But I will post some thoughts after tonight.

Quick hit thoughts, the key position players are very shallow after the first round but the mids and flanks run very deep.

IMO there is quite a few KPP's that should be available in the 2nd round onwards. Issue is with Brisbane, WB, Saints all picking ahead we might miss out. Hourigan, McCarthy, Harvey, Marsh, Freeman (QLD version) for starters. Giles, McStay, Spencer in the defenders.

Where do the watchers place Salem and Merritt?
Top 10-12 and probably mid 2nd onwards for Merrett. I find him a harder one to rate. Plays well but not sure he stands out enough from the next bloke.

Been watching Houragan that quarter closely, looks a bit slow, and his attitude when not being kicked the ball is terrible, doesnt lead up enough. He has the 2nd half to convince me.

Red haired tall for SA up forward looks ok and McCarthy is a class for WA, would be good to have him in your forward line.

Bigger crowd here than the North v GWS game :rofl. (Almost)

Just watched the vic game, nothing to write home about. The number 12 for metro was the only one I didn't mind.
Shocking kicking, hand balls missing targets
And listening to Sheehan & the rest of them , have there favourites Goodard & billings... Big deal

First game was good. Second was error riddled all the way through.

Usually after watching one of these games, you have 2 or 3 that catch your eye. But that game was rubbish
I don't usually watch these games because the media ( Sheehan ) have already picked there favourites and continually praising them.
Today was no different Goddard & billings. The goals billings kicked nahas would've kicked. Big deal.
And I haven't recovered from sheehans comment of the century, "this kid has leadership written all over him"
He was talking about Pettifer. :rofl

They are currently going through the young players available on SEN at the moment as they are broadcasting from the u18 champs and are looking at who the clubs would draft given their position at the moment. They've just done Collingwood at pick 10.

**Didn't last as long as I thought and I was reading something and didn't hear who they thought we would be targeting as a pick.

anyone know if this game can be seen on the internetz? Don't have AFLlive subscription.

Youtube maybe?

Seen bugger all U18s this year but caught some of the Metro vs Country game.
Salem looks genuine to me,above average kick & looked to be creating a lot of play with his disposal.

Yeah, I am a fan. Great stepper and footwork. Would suit our needs.

Liked the look of Impey for Vic country, just looked a real classy type to me.

Absolute class. The 3 games I saw him at Champs he played different roles. Fwd, back then mid. Was good in all of them

Might just be me but he reminded me of Wirrpanda the way he moved & kicked, I'd be happy with a clone of him thats for sure.

He does have a bit of Wirrpanda in him. Looks a bit like Shannon Motlop facially though. ;D

Great given name too: Jarman. I shoulda called my son Ablett!
