Does anyone know of his contract siutuation??? He is playing a pretty good final and had a pretty good season. Do you think we should make a play for him? Would he be able to handle being a number 1 ruck??

No way would Geelong ever let him go, not after big mummy coming back to bite them in the arse

He'd be a great pick up, only Geelong wont let him go cheap at all.....they got absolutely stuffed in the Mumford trade and won't let it happen again.

Takes a good grab...we haven't had a ruckman who can mark like that since Ottens.

Yeah about 11 months too late unfortunately.

God ruckmen are hard to love. Unless they all play like Dean Cox, Jim Stynes, Mark Lee, Peter Moore or Mike Greene - I hate them all. They're either complete stiffs, zombies with a bad case of rigour and either too pretty or just inbred ugly or they're 6'10" of muscular lead male principal dancer in the Australian Ballet (out of 'tards and into tight shorts) mixed with Mike Tyson. There's no in between.

Amazing he was drafted in 2005, and has only played a few games up to this year. Ruckmen take a fair bit of time to develop, hence Vickery this year starting to produce some good games after being picked up in 2008.

Reckon in some cases, it's hard to draft a young ruckman because the rewards may not be evident for several years. Trading in one who has had 3-4 years at another club could work as they have already had that length of time to develop an AFL physique, and perhaps just need a chance to perform.

I'm guessing with the sub rule, Mark Blake's tapwork-only skillset is just too specialised to play in press-style footy, thus talls with more strings to the bow will be desired.

Had to laugh at Liam Pickering on AFL Teams on thurs, said we should look at Blake! never laughed so hard!!

Mentioned him about 7 weeks ago but was laughed down on PRE.
I agreed with you 7 weeks ago RR. The difference now is that some have seen him play a decent game (and take a decent mark).

Blake would be their ruck trade material - lets pray to our gods he doesn't end up at Richmond.

The key is getting that number 1 ruck spot sorted. You do that and 80% of people can't even name the backups. You get great freedom to use the rookie list and audition a few in the hope of finding a good one. Heaps of people refer to the success of a bargain rookie like Cox, but that is because they spent number 1 pick on Gardiner first. Goldstein is a successful gamble - that you can take if you spend a top-10 pick on McIntosh.

Graham and Browne are handy back-up second stringers who should have played half the games they have. It is the lack of the number-1 guy that is the problem not the understudies.

Blake would be handy as a 1st ruck type with Vickery in support. He will never be anything other than solid but would be better than Graham or Browne. But as a 2nd ruckman or backup he is useless. Even West would not play if Nathan Vardy was fit because he is a better forward.

Blake!!! please spare me. If some of you think that Gus is soft (I dont,by the way) Blake is the prototype of Sheedys marshmallows. He is disgraceful.
My 6 year old grandson is tougher than him.

If we pick him up I will fair dinkum SPEW UP!!!

Atleast Blake can win a hitout once in a while.

Calling Blake soft is not only unfair, it is crap. OK he can't mark, none of our ruckmen can, he can't kick, ditto. What he can do is give our mid field an arm chair ride, none of our ruckmen can do that either. He is on the market and a proven AFL ruckman. Go for him. Draft late and rookie some big kids.

Sorry Monty but I completely disagree. If Blake was any sort of a ruckman he would be in the cats team before West, Vardy etc. he is not worth the risk and imo he is soft. At least Gus tries. Blake is & will continue to be a liability. The only reason he is on the cats list, is because he was a father son pick. Dad was a good player so maybe the son will be, as we all know, it doesn't always work out that way.

We must not waste our time with him.

OK so who is going to convinve Trent that he should leave Geelong to come to us.

The only argument that I can think of other than money and opportunities, is that MAYBE we will be on the rise when Geelong are on the way down.

But I'll believe it when I see it.

If the Cats pull off the GF this year Ottens may pull the pin - if he does that will mean West will be 1st ruck (with Vardy still developing along with Simpson) and that alone would be enough to keep him at the cattery you would think.
