Big thank you to Terry Wallace for throwing that Round 22 game v St.Kilda in 2007 so we got Trent.

Footy immortality couldn't happen to a more deserving bloke.

You're a legend, Cotch.

Can never thank you enough for what you've done for our club.

How about his comments on dusty on the Sunday footy show. He was asked to comment on what makes dusty special. Normally you would hear stuff about training and diet and the like. But not our captain. No captain in sports history would have ever talked this way about a fellow player. Remarkable comments and an insight into the authenticity and honesty of this group.

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin said Martin had to learn to "love himself" on his path to becoming an AFL superstar.
"Everybody who speaks about him, particularly in the AFL world, is just in awe of his unique ability to will himself and win games off the back of his own boot," Cotchin said.
"But I think the thing that I love most about him is the journey that he's been on about really connecting with himself and finding that love for himself.
"I encourage it for everyone to be the case.
"The footy environment can be tough at different stages and the expectation that's put on players, particularly like himself, it can be a lot to deal with.
"But the way that he just shows up and continually just is true to himself is really impressive to watch from afar, but also from right by his side."

Heard it and loved it.

You can learn I think so much what this club has shown us these past 4 years how to be as a person, how to care, how to respect and lastly how to love.

Made captain on this day back in 2012 apparently.
What an inspired choice he was as skipper in our club's resurrection back to greatness.
Remember the controversy at the time when he wanted to keep the number 9 as opposed to the gimmicky number 17 (Dyer) because he wanted to forge his own history at the club?
I'd say he's done just that..

I was one who felt it was too early and thought I was proven correct early on. In hindsight perhaps it was the mistakes he made in early years that helped him become the leader he has become. He hasn't kicked against the wind again in a final since anyway. ;)
Also history says I was wrong as he is a 3 time Premiership skipper

Like a lot of our stars, their true success came when they realised they didn't have to do it all themselves. Lids was a couple of years too early.

It's as true in management. The best exponents of their craft do not necessarily become the best managers. Managing is about understanding how to get the best out of the team and who will be most effective in a given position.

Since he was made captain we’ve only missed the finals once. (2016)
