Trent Cotchin (Merged)

I reckon there in lies the philosophy behind Rance’s decision although for different reasons. Rance has achieved the ultimate which has made it easier for him to step aside now for reasons of faith. Cotchin I think will be the same and he will retire before his body gives up and my guess a few in the industry will think he could easily go another season or two. He won’t do an Ablett or Ponting and let us watch a champion decline before our eyes. Cotchin priority may be simply family reasons.

Could this be Cotchin’s last year - quick someone check his contract.

They are both ahead of their time in the way they think.
I reckon Cotch might call it at the end of next season.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was. However, I reckon a couple, mentor the new skipper for a year!

in two years time we might have won 3 straight and looking to equal the record. Not the time to retire :)

Seriously its probably a process approach - take it each week, each season and re-evaluate at the end. Its a happy workplace and successful. It doesnt appear to be a grind. No reason to quit early and more likely to go out having giving absolutely everything he has got

He’s been superb tonight. Doesn’t change my opinion. Win another flag & hand over the captaincy could well see him go at the end of 2021.
Yep, I think adding Vlastuin to the leadership group this year would be a good step, then hand it off to him next year.

he appeared to be moving very freely ,

gets a look to him sometimes where he looks a bit tight and sore but pushes through it

Maybe worth starting to manage cotch. Play him 3 out of 4 games. Still got it, need to get another few years out of him.

If he attacks the ball carrier like he did last night, you’ll need to manage the rest of the comp.
Very, very proud of Cotch last night. Think he enjoyed being the State Captain

Not like another club captain that has a sook when he gets tackled...

The movement and nimbleness that Cotch showed last night give me some nimble movements.

Looked spritely, looked relaxed, looked powerful and even at that level was THE physical presence.

Pound for pound, Cotch is the hardest man in the AFL. Beyond dispute.

Cotch is a battering ram at any level.
Rightly selected as captain of the state team.
Best leader in the competition.
