Trade talk 2019/20

As was pointed out though that Dunkley wanted more midfield time and now the y have brought Treloar who really can't play anywhere else
Plus they brought in Stef Martin as a backup for English, so he won't be playing in the ruck either lol.

Yep good point Caesar about the Giants forcing their hand.

They are all in the Cats thats for sure and somehow things may fall in a way to give them their shot at it ie Tigers have a shocker of a year or *smile* the bed but I don't think they will get it done.

This year was their best shot we were a key man down for the 3 1/2 quarters and we still steamrolled them.

They cant beat us on the G if we are in the mood and interested they are not fast enough or hard enough for long enough to beat us.

Considering we could have a fresh rejuvenated focussed and firing pairing in Rioli and Stack and we go to another level right there alone.
The GWS v Geelong trade shenanigans was almost as entertaining as the Pies fire sale and Treloar stuff! How's that Tweet from Buckley, poor Bucks!

I still havent quite got over our unders for Higgins. Not that he wanted out (that's his right) but our unders rec'd. Geelong's 2 future 2nd rounders from Ess/GWS likely to be better than our 2nd from the Saints. I love Blair and our LMT, their decency and ability to spot talent is outstanding (Bolton, Baker and Balta are much better players than the marketplace recognises). But I'm not sure we are as creative as we could be with trading the picks/numbers around. Perhaps an area for improvement.

Geelong and Port, who I see as our 2 genuine competitors in 2021 have both strengthened their teams. Mentally, I have almost never rated Port. Flaky club. But their work this year on copying the Tigers with mindfulness, resilience stuff made a real difference to them. Another year of that will help them. And they have genuine young guns plus a well balanced team across the park IMO. Boak, Wines, their midfield all had great years. Can they do it again? They had injuries to some KP players not so much the midfielders. Bet they end up playing the Cats at Kardina Park in 2021!

The cats are always fascinating under Mr Passive-Aggressive Scott. 3 quality players make them better. Personally, I see Higgins as a real point of difference, IMO there's 1-2 goals extra per game and he is a classy user of the ball. Wonder how many stray elbows Jeremy Cameron gets away with in 2021? At GWS, it was always called out. The Geelong-supporting media wont even mention these next year. Apart from Duckwood, most of their midfielders played all year, few injuries. And the 16 min qtrs help them. I hope we get back to the way it should be w longer qtrs.

The thing with Geelong is with Taylor gone, Blicavs will likely go back into defence and maybe Hendo needs to step up even more. I see their team defence as less solid and just as slow as always. If the defence is the sum of its parts, I still see them weak and slow there. Then again, Astbury and Grimes are one year older too.

I know we will improve with natural improvement from our youth. But that's every club.

Some real challengers next year. But as Caesar and others have said, lets enjoy another flag this year.

If Cat's win a Premiership in the next 2 years nothing else matters it will be mission accomplished I am just relieved and stoked that the Giants matched, otherwise Cats would have blitzed their trades for the now and still had 3 1st round picks which would have been unbearable.

The cats have fallen prey to The Richmond Delusion.

It works like this; you get beaten by richmond in a grandfinal and you extrapolate that your close to a premiership.

When in reality, you are equal 2nd best with 6 other clubs and only half as good as best.

Its a footy version of water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink.

So cats increase their average player age by a year or two and pay an unprecedented fortune for a grubby peaheart (well done gws, finally cats pay overs after a dream run of geelong falcon sooks returning home)

The falcons should be called the pigeons.

Richmond will beat Port, Brisbane, west coast or dogs in 2021. Most likeky port

Good thing is if it doesn't deliver a premiership, or even better they misfire and miss the eight, it will be diabolical for them.

I wrote that as soon as I saw it and didn't think about it too much. On reflection I agree.

I understand the excuse that because we're a powerful Premiership club we are going to lose fringe players but that's no excuse to at least try and secure a good deal for them instead of these meek giveaways.
I do not agree. If it was the other way round and we were trying to get Higgins to Richmond, would we all have been happy to pay a first rounder? On what I've seen, I certainly wouldn't. In my eyes, I'd have been happy to pay what the Saints paid. A second rounder and a slight downgrade on our first.
Only time will tell whether it ends up a win for either club, but on exposed form, I think the deal was pretty fair.

Just means in 12 months time someone from the Dogs midfield brigade (not Treloar, McRae, Bont but Dunkley, Smith, Hunter, Wallis, West, McLean, Libba will want out) because they’re not getting a go.

All logical except selecting Higgins was an abject and complete waste of time, energy and money.
1. Didn't need another SF at all with all the rich talent on the list and MRJ a prospect for those with vision
2. Should have invested that pick in another quality tall back or forward
3. Should have just kept Butler, and re-contracted him. I would argue, our best SF in several respects e.g. goal-kicking ability/tackling/pressure. He has proven this elsewhere now.

Investment in Higgins was just a bust that was misplaced from the outset; then for him to drop us after all the effort and care put in by the club just added insult to injury.
Sum total - 2 x Wrongs does not equal a Right. Saints have franked the Butler deal by about 3/4 times over and taken Higgins too. They are 2 players better off, one a clear winner. We have draft picks which are hit or miss.

we still have a mid 30s pick in 2021 in a very very deep draft due to carry over players from 2020 and it becoming u/19s in 2021 ,and moving up 4 spots will make a huge difference in who we pick with gws ,melbourne twice, saints behind us now,it means 4 more highly rated kids left for us to pick one from.

Ludicrous analysis.

I don't like the Higgins deal much either. But consider this scenario - we keep him for another year - he's out of contract - his form worsens or even just stagnates - he plays half a dozen nondescript senior games. Good luck getting a first round upgrade and second round pick after that.

Pretty amazing that the Dogs kept Dunkley & picked up Treloar.
Got to feel for Dunkley.
He was leaving because he wasn't getting enough time in the midfield.
Now, not only was he forced to stay, but the dogs bring in another midfielder.
He'll be spending a lot more time in the forward line now.

Weren’t they forcing him into the ruck as well?

I'm tipping that $tephenson will cause problems for Norf.
Something stinks there.
North are just getting it wrong in so many areas for a club that needs to run tight and true they have dropped the ball, the late 90's era gave them another boost to supporter base but geez they have to get this off season right off field no more patch up jobs they need to get fair dinkum and get the right campaigners into the joint.

Losing Brown is a disaster for them they are bottom 2 next season no doubt if not spooners.

Probably Dunkley again ............................... maybe we can bring him back to Punt Road to assist a post Chimp transition.
